Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to step into a high-impact leadership role where you will shape the safety culture and operational success of a respected Nova Scotian company. As Safety and Fleet Compliance Manager with West Nova Fuels, you will serve as a key partner to the General Manager, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations across multiple regions.
In this pivotal role, you will lead the advancement of safety programs, oversee regulatory compliance, and optimize fleet performance. From implementing policies and conducting audits, to driving preventive maintenance programs and monitoring fleet efficiency, your leadership will be critical to sustaining operational excellence and upholding West Nova Fuels’ long-standing reputation for trusted service.
Working closely with Branch and Area Managers, you’ll have the opportunity to strengthen best practices, share knowledge, and roll out improvements that make a companywide impact. This position is ideal for a safety-focused leader who thrives on collaboration, continuous improvement, and influencing both culture and performance across diverse operations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Driving the implementation and monitoring of safety procedures in alignment with the Suncor Prudent Operations program, enhancing performance and fostering a stronger, companywide safety culture.
- Act as the primary liaison and subject matter expert for AWE and Samsara onboard truck systems, working closely with providers while supporting branches and the Lunenburg office in their day-to-day use.
- Maintain an up-to-date fleet inventory with full operating cost tracking, provide data-driven recommendations to improve utilization, and partner with the General Manager on long-term fleet replacement planning.
- Support branches in maintaining bulk plants and the cardlock network, ensuring consistent standards, reliability, and compliance across all locations.
- Manage third-party carrier relationships to ensure efficient, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of products to bulk terminals.
- Assist the General Manager in developing and implementing policies related to health and safety, operational procedures, environmental standards, and other additional duties as assigned.
- Remain current on technical advancements, delivery codes, and regulations affecting company operations.
What We’re Looking For
As an ideal candidate, you are an experienced safety and fleet management professional with a background in logistics, industrial operations, or a related environment. You are well-versed in onboard vehicle systems such as AWE and Samsara, and bring the confidence to act as a subject matter expert, supporting and guiding others in their use. With a thorough understanding of safety codes, regulatory standards, and environmental policies, you know how to apply these requirements to ensure full compliance and operational readiness.
Your strong analytical skills enable you to interpret operational data, control costs, and recommend practical, results-oriented improvements. Just as importantly, your communication and leadership abilities allow you to build trust and collaborate effectively with managers and teams across multiple branches. Above all, you are a safety-driven leader who is motivated by the opportunity to influence culture, strengthen compliance, and drive operational excellence across an entire organization.
