A vacancy exists at our Country Squire location for the position of System Operator (Journeyperson).
This position is responsible for carrying out all aspects of the System Operator role, including fulfilling the responsibilities of a 24/7 Controlling Authority, monitoring SCADA ADMS, controlling and authorizing the operation of transformer stations and the electrical distribution system in accordance with the IESO Market Rules and responding to system anomalies, direct switching operations and preparing and administering Work Protection, and maintaining system logs and maps.
Skills/Abilities
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate MS Office skills and use of Corporate Software including Geographical Information Systems (G.I.S.) software.
- Advanced skills using SCADA ADMS.
- Intermediate time management and planning skills with the ability to multitask and adapt to changing industry standards.
- Able to deal with customers, regulatory bodies, other agencies and authorities, the public, and fellow employees in a respectful, courteous, and tactful manner.
- Intermediate mathematical skills.
- Advanced problem solving, critical thinking and troubleshooting skills within differing situations.
- Intermediate AutoCAD skills.
- Ability to work a 12-hour shift schedule and be available on a call-in basis.
- Intermediate ability to interpret schematics, instructions, specifications, standards, wiring diagrams, sketches, and engineering drawings.
- Demonstrate excellent safety skills and operational skills with the equipment and operating aids associated with the System Operator role with a high degree of accuracy.
Knowledge/Education
- Post Secondary Education in Electrical Engineering Technology or related discipline.
- Must be a Journeyperson Distribution Electrical Operator including successful. completion of the MEARIE Distribution Electrical Operator Program or equivalent.
- Advanced knowledge of Utility Work Protection Code.
- Intermediate knowledge of EUSR Rules, the Ontario Power System Restoration Plan and relevant sections of the IESO Market Rules.
- Intermediate knowledge of transformer station operation and associated protection schemes.
- Intermediate knowledge of distribution system equipment and operation.
- Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and related Construction and Industrial regulations and relevant company policies and work procedures and any other applicable government legislation.
##Experience

4 years’ related experience.

Valid Class “G” driver’s license.
##Major (Primary) Responsibilities
- Monitor, control, and authorize the efficient operation of the electrical distribution system and transformer stations owned by Enova and other local Distribution Companies in accordance with the IESO Market Rules.
- Respond to system anomalies and dispatch and direct appropriate work crews, as required, to complete distribution system repairs in response to customer complaints and trouble calls and during periods of emergency.
- Provide hold-offs and prepare and administer Work Protection and prepare work permits.
- Prepare and direct switching procedures and operations for the transformer stations and the electrical distribution system and accommodate planned and unplanned outages.
- Maintain system logs, maps, and open points. Record all events and changes in the electrical distribution system; prepare, organize, and interpret records and reports.
- Assist in the computer programming of the SCADA System.
- Monitor and control building security and fire systems.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the timely restoration of power.
- Coordinate with Hydro One, IESO, neighbouring utilities, and internal departments to accommodate transformer substation maintenance and planned outages and system operations.
- Execute the Emergency Action Protocol as required and communicate with stakeholders as required.
- Maintain and promote a safe and healthy work environment and perform work in a safe manner in compliance with applicable legislation and corporate rules, procedures, and policies. Operate motor vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
- Complete the regularly scheduled cybersecurity awareness training. Maintain an awareness of the sensitivity of the data within the work environment. Keep passwords private. Report changes in user status. Report suspected security violations. Follow staff reporting structure to communicate if any concerns/issues/risks are identified. Follow physical security protocols.
- Monitor performance and provide assistance and instruction to junior grades of employees.
- Give work assignments to others.
- Assume the duties of acting supervisor in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range:$33.93 to $ 52.88/ hr.
