About the role
This role is hybrid and requires you to be at our downtown Toronto and/or Client office at a minimum 3 days per week - subject to change at any time.
The Project Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of assigned projects, from inception to implementation and project closure, with a focus on an upcoming data center transformation project. The Project Manager ensures that the objectives and goals are met and the commitments on budget, quality, scope, and schedule are achieved, following the standard project management practices, such as those established by the PMI in the PMBOK. The Project Manager is also responsible for ensuring that the efforts of the various internal functional areas and external service providers and customers are integrated in the best interest of the project by promoting and enforcing the Client's Project Management methodology. The Project Manager is able to facilitate communication with all stakeholders efficiently and effectively. The Project Manager directs, manages, and coordinates team members including technology resources, user groups, internal and external consultants, and contractors, as well as vendors.
Your future duties and responsibilities
Project Management
. Directs complex projects often involving multiple internal and external constituents and matrix partners
. Works with people managers across T&O to ensure projects are staffed with the right people
. Directly manages all aspects of the project lifecycle and works with corporate and IT partners to oversee all phases of the project, and to ensure that related processes are completed as required (including as applicable, change management, process management, transition to business/operations, system development, quality management, etc.)
. Within the context of the assigned project, responsible for building and sustaining the day-to-day relationships and communications (including project briefings) with stakeholders at various levels of the organization. Sustains and manages the relationship with the Project Sponsor throughout the duration of the project by providing sound advice, counsel and support.
. Ensure end results are of the highest caliber with a quantifiable benefit.
. Ensures the mechanisms of change management (plans, processes, tools) are in place and effectively executed.
. Ensures project issues and risks are identified, quantified, managed and tracked. Uses past experience to proactively anticipate risk and develop appropriate mitigation strategies and plans.
. Ensures risks, assumptions and constraints are appropriately communicated and escalated when necessary.
. Rigorously manages scope to ensure commitments are achieved within agreed upon time, cost, and quality parameters.
. Manages and validates financial forecasts and provides on-going reconciliation of resources and other related project expenditures.
. Defines and tracks project milestones while developing, maintaining, and reporting on a detailed overall integrated delivery schedule.
. Develops project artifacts including charter, detailed schedule, resource plan, contingency plan, and other related PM artifacts, while complying with applicable Client PMO standards.
. Monitors and controls the project. Proposes recommendations and adjustments to the Project Sponsor and PMO Lead and publishes project status reports.
. Provides the Project Sponsor and PMO Lead with continued insight in the viability of the business case (e.g., costs, benefits, KPIs) as the project progresses. 65%
Relationship and Communication Management
. Provides leadership, motivation, coaching, and mentoring for project team members in order to obtain a high level of co-operation and contribution from all project members.
. Chairs regular core team and key governance forums (e.g., Project Steering Committees) to review progress with key stakeholders.
. Represents the interests of the project, program or PMO in various governance and inter-department forums.
. Negotiates complex contracts with external vendors (in consultation with the PMO Lead and Project Sponsor) to ensure receipt of specific resources and materials, as well as best value for the organization.
. Ensures day-to-day vendor relationship management occurs (including monitoring performance, reviewing and approving vendor invoices. 25%
PMO Governance and Support
. Contributes to improve the best practices of the project management community within the organization to help drive consistency, transparency and execution excellence on projects. 10%
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
Required Qualifications
. Possesses advanced knowledge and 5+ years of experience in project management.
. Demonstrated experience leading infrastructure-related projects using iterative Waterfall / Agile methodologies.
. Holding a valid PMP designation from the Project management Institute (PMI) is an asset.
. Holding a valid agile certification (e.g., Scrum Master) is an asset.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
. Thorough knowledge of project management methodologies and techniques (e.g., PMI, PMBOK)
. Knowledge and experience with the following technologies is an asset:
o Cloud Infrastructure Knowledge: Deep understanding of Azure (IaaS, PaaS, networking, storage, security).
o Virtualization & Migration: Experience with Nutanix, UCS, and VM migration strategies/tools (e.g., Azure Migrate).
o Hybrid Cloud Architecture: Ability to design and manage hybrid environments (on-prem + cloud).
o Networking & Security: Familiarity with VPNs, firewalls, NSGs, identity management, and encryption.
. Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and ability to manage impacts of infrastructure change with in-flight application changes.
. Sound technical acumen, with demonstrated agility in learning and ability to quickly become comfortable with unfamiliar technologies.
Soft Skills
. Excellent relationship management and consulting skills which results in an ability to earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders, mobilize and motivate teams, set direction and approach, resolve conflict, execute with limited information and ambiguity.
