Overview

The Saskatchewan Research Council’s Facilities and Security team is looking for a Senior Facilities Technician to provide support for the operation and maintenance of complex building systems and emergency infrastructure.  This role will coordinate with contractors, support large-scale projects and develop preventive maintenance programs. 

 

Accountabilities

  • Evaluate causes of asset failures/breakdowns and suggest preventive or corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence

  • Oversee contractors and vendors during scheduled services, repairs and installations, ensuring compliance with scope, safety protocols and technical specifications

  • Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing and life safety systems

  • Assist with the coordination of large-scale projects and communicate with leaders regarding upcoming project needs

  • Conduct routine facility walkthroughs, log operational data and proactively identify equipment malfunctions or performance issues

  • Maintain and repair lab equipment such as fume hoods, lab-grade air handling units, deionized water loops, gas distribution systems and environmental chambers

  • Monitor Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS), adjust system parameters and troubleshoot issues related to climate control, lighting and integrated security systems

  • Conduct regular testing and inspection of emergency systems, including backup generators, fire suppression and emergency lighting systems

  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, permits, and work completed, confirming compliance with fire code, boiler operations and environmental standards

  • Participate as a key member of SRC’s emergency management team and support emergency response readiness

Qualifications

  • 8+ years’ experience in building operations

  • Experience in an institutional, industrial or research facility. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in a lab setting

  • Trade or Power Engineering Certification is an asset

  • Knowledge of building and fire codes and familiarity with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards

  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications, including CMMS, BAS/BMS interfaces and documentation tools

Skills

  • Technical expertise with the ability to troubleshoot, maintain and repair mechanical and electrical building systems and equipment
  • Effective communication skills to interact with team members, tenants and contractors
  • Self-motivated, with a high attention to detail and commitment to best practices for high-quality work and workplace safety
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage changing priorities and schedules

 

The chosen candidate will also be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt. 

 

This position is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
