The Opportunity:
The Controller is a senior leader within Cosmetica Laboratories Inc. and a key member of the senior leadership team. This role provides strong financial leadership, governance, and oversight across the organization, supporting sound decision-making and sustainable growth.

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting, maintaining robust internal controls, and managing consolidated financial results across multiple legal entities. This position plays a critical role in financial stewardship for a small-to-mid-sized contract manufacturing business, partnering closely with the CFO, executive leadership, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Governance & Reporting

  • Oversee the accounting operations of the CDN and U.S. subsidiary, including internal controls, transaction processing, payroll, and federal and state tax compliance
  • Manage accounting and financial reporting, the related entity that owns the company’s building
  • Lead the consolidation of financial statements across Cosmetica Laboratories Inc. and its U.S. subsidiary
  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Maintain strong internal controls to mitigate risk and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting
  • Coordinate audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors
  • Apply strong knowledge of Canadian & US tax legislation to support external auditors in the preparation of annual corporate tax filings
  • Drive the budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with the Manager of Finance (FP&A)

Strategic Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a trusted financial advisor to the CFO, Executive and Senior Leadership Team, providing insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making
  • Identify, assess, and communicate financial risks and opportunities facing the organization
  • Establish, monitor, and enforce financial policies and procedures to support operational effectiveness and compliance
  • Partner closely with the Manager of Finance (FP&A) to analyze revenue and expense performance and assess impacts on the company’s overall financial health

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Maximize the return on financial assets through effective financial management, controls, and reporting systems
  • Prepare and present monthly Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A) reports for senior management and the Board of Directors
  • Develop and deliver ad hoc financial analyses and special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing financial information and trends
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across finance and accounting processes, systems, and controls

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide leadership, direction, and day-to-day management of the Accounting team
  • Partner with the Manager, Financial Reporting & Controls to optimize accounting processes and internal controls
  • Coach, mentor, and develop finance team members to achieve individual and departmental objectives
  • Build strong working relationships with senior leadership and external partners

Qualifications and Requirements

Education, Experience & Qualifications

Required

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA designation required
  • Minimum 5–10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including experience in a Controller or senior finance leadership role
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience managing, coaching, and mentoring finance or accounting professionals
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards, auditing practices, and corporate finance principles
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze both detailed and high-level financial data and clearly communicate key insights to management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., Visual, SAP) and the ability to learn new financial systems

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Experience within a manufacturing, contract manufacturing, or CPG environment
  • Experience working with multiple legal entities and consolidated financial reporting

Total Rewards

The expected base salary range for this role is $125,000– $175,000 CAD.

In addition to base compensation Cosmetica offers a competitive total rewards package which may include bonus eligibility, equity, benefits, retirement plans, paid time away from work, etc.

Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, market conditions, and internal equity.
