Your Opportunity:
The NICU, PCICU and PICU at the Stollery Children’s Hospital are dedicated to the provision of the state-of-the-art care to critically ill children up to 18 years of age. Since opening in 2001, the Stollery has developed as a specialized site with expertise and programs to ensure children who require inpatient services receive the best possible care. Highly‑skilled child health professionals from around the world have made the Stollery a well‑recognised centre for specialised paediatric services.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a highly specialised unit with advanced medical technology which provides comprehensive 24‑hour care for critically ill newborns and their families. The PCICU is the referral centre for the Western Canadian Children’s Heart Network and receives approximately 450 children/year post open‑heart surgery, making it the second busiest congenital heart surgery programme in Canada. It is also the ECMO/VAD referral site for most of Western Canada. All forms of non‑cardiac paediatric critical illness are managed at the Stollery Children’s Hospital PICU. The successful applicant will support 2 out of 3 of these critical‑care areas.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well‑being. In your role, you will utilise nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient‑ and family‑centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour – $54.16 /hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
- Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP).
- If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management – Chapters 1‑4 (link) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (link).
Additional Required Qualifications:
- Successful completion of the NICU/PICU/PCICU orientation programmes (2 out of 3 as per units supported).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Critical care experience preferred.
- Paediatric experience preferred.
- Consideration will be given to those applicants with advanced skill/colour level in NICU/PICU/PCICU.
