Regular Full-Time Position - (1.0 FTE)
This position is at the L05 level with an hourly pay range of $33.93 - $42.93
(PSAC Bargaining Unit)
Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the incumbent, as part of the Pharmacy team, performs complex duties such as manufacturing various sterile products, intravenous solutions, and chemotherapy; performs order entry duties; measures, manufactures, compounds, packages; organizes and distributes medications; assists with the purchasing and receiving; and performs other related duties. The position makes decisions with regard to: quantity of items packaged/compounded; quantities of medication required including compounded parenteral products; determines quantities of supplies stocked in dispensary inventory in consultation with Pharmacy Manager and performs purchasing/receiving duties as required.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods for various sterile products, intravenous solutions, and chemotherapy drugs and to measure, manufacture, compound, package, and distribute medications;
- Analytical skills;
- Good communication skills, both oral and written;
- Ability to deal with others effectively;
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position;
- Basic computer skills, including typing;
- Ability to operate related equipment;
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary work team
The successful applicant will have grade 12 diploma and graduated from a nationally recognized Pharmacy Technician course including a hospital pharmacy practicum (or judged equivalent experience). The following education, training and certification are desired: 1-2 years hospital pharmacy experience; National Certification from the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC); registration with a Canadian College of Pharmacy; Meditech experience and 6-12 months, experience preparing chemotherapy.
