The Opportunity

The Shift Supervisor role is all about working closely with Logistics Management to lead the team by managing day-to-day operations and ensuring the Calgary Food Bank meets our goals. This is a hands-on position that requires delegating tasks effectively and keeping an eye on performance in our fast-paced environment. As Supervisor, you will act as a friendly but effective bridge between management and employees, overseeing tasks, enforcing policies, providing training and offering helpful feedback all in a timely manner while fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment. The Shift Supervisor must show responsive leadership, flexibility, and the ability to make confident decisions quickly while handling multiple tasks.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support and maintain the correct protocols and procedures of the warehouse through avenues of receiving, shipping and transportation when handling food products in and out of the facility following our Receiving Guide.
  • Support all shift staff which includes warehouse, forklift operators, fleet drivers and volunteers ensuring that all individuals are productive, organized, receive a high level of communication regarding task management, provide motivation, mentoring, training, feedback and foster a positive inclusive workplace.
  • Work with the Health & Safety Coordinator to ensure proper training is up to date, and that all staff are adhering to Calgary Food Bank’s health, safety, and food safety regulations, including proper PPE equipment and tools for staff and volunteers being available and being involved with the Health & Safety orientations of our volunteers as required.
  • Support the Volunteer Resources Manager to help with the distribution of volunteers into the appropriate areas such as Operations, Fresh Foods, Production, Distribution and Client Services, providing guidance, clear instruction and follow up task management.
  • Responsible for auditing employee timecard edits, vacation approval, and reporting any concerns to Management when approving or disapproving employee entries to the ADP system.
  • Work with Transportation to ensure that built orders of product for satellite depots, the Neoma facility and Food link are picked properly, shipping & receiving paperwork is filled out correctly, and order is available for the time slots required.
  • Work with the Inventory team to ensure all product is entered into the inventory system correctly, communicate any product or receiving issues to the Inventory team immediately.
  • Support logistics forklift team by providing open communication in procedural, protocol, and facility changes. Promote, monitor and be proactive in steel racking responsibilities in terms of safety, cleanliness, organization, FIFO, quality and distribution of products.
  • Work with and communicate with off-site supervisor of CFB Warehouse 2 in product traceability, managing workflow with facility transfers, and inventory.
  • Work with reporting Manager and Senior Management to promote open door policy with employees, resolving employee issues, disputes, and participate in disciplinary HR matters accordingly.

Skills & Capabilities

  • Must be forklift certified.
  • Must have reach truck forklift experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage with diverse audiences.
  • Having initiative, with the ability to work under little or no supervision and to be able to work under pressure
  • Exceptional attention to detail and documentation.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation and client engagement skills.
  • Advanced computer literacy.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
  • Effective in crisis and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a collaborative team approach.
  • Experience working with vulnerable and diverse populations.
  • Flexible and responsive to operational needs.
  • Knowledge of community resources is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Work is conducted in a warehouse environment.
  • This is a full-time 37.5 hour per week position.
  • Comfortable in fast-paced, client-facing environments.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
