The purpose of this role is to build and maintain reliable, high-quality data infrastructure and analytics products that power data-informed decision-making at MaKami College. As a Data Analytics Lead, you will transform raw data from student systems, marketing platforms, finance, and other sources into clean, governed, and actionable datasets, dashboards, and insights supporting student recruitment, retention, equity initiatives, government compliance, grant applications, and institutional growth.

You will work closely with the Director of Data Strategy & Analytics, marketing, admissions, student services, finance, and academic teams to deliver end-to-end data solutions, from pipelines and modelling to visualizations and storytelling, that drive improvements in student success, program outcomes, and access for underserved populations

Key Accountabilities

  • Build/maintain data pipelines, transformations, and models (SQL, dbt, Power Query, ETL) integrating student information systems, CRM/marketing platforms, learning management systems, finance/HR tools, and external data.
  • Develop/optimize relational data models, views, stored procedures, and semantic layers in on-premises databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL) for reliable self-serve analytics.
  • Ensure data quality, documentation, version control, and compliance best practices.
  • Develop and maintain a centralized business glossary / data definitions repository to standardize key institutional terms (e.g., enrollment status, retention cohort, equity metrics, lead conversion)
  • Implement RBAC (role-based access controls) for data assets, dashboards, and tools—defining roles with appropriate permissions (read-only, edit, admin) to protect sensitive data while enabling secure self-serve access.
  • Create and maintain interactive dashboards, scorecards, and reporting tools (Power BI/Tableau) for tracking enrollment, retention, equity, program outcomes, surveys, and ROI.
  • Perform ad-hoc and predictive analysis (e.g., retention forecasting, demographic targeting) to support marketing campaigns, student support, and resource allocation.
  • Prepare validated data for government reporting, compliance, grants, and impact stories.
  • Collaborate with departments to identify data needs, translate business questions into technical requirements, and train users to promote adoption and data literacy.
  • Partner with the cross-functional teams to deliver insights that demonstrate impact for underrepresented learners and support strategic priorities like expansion and program development.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or related field.
  • Certification in Microsoft tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL Server, Azure Data fundamentals) or data engineering preferred.

Experience

  • 2+ years in data analytics, BI, data engineering, or institutional research (higher ed/post-secondary preferred).
  • Experienced in SQL; hands-on with Power BI/Tableau, data modelling, and on-premises/file-based integration.
  • Knowledge of on-premises databases, ETL, governance (role-based access), privacy, and equity in education is an asset.
  • Familiarity with higher-ed or student-focused metrics (marketing, enrollment, retention, equity, surveys, government reporting) is a strong asset.
  • Experience building or contributing to a business glossary/data dictionary for standardized definitions in a regulated environment is preferred.
  • Passion for education access and improving outcomes for underserved students.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate in a small, growing team and adapt to evolving priorities.
