The Opportunity: Portfolio Controller
Fluent Software Group is looking for a high-performing, hands-on Portfolio Controller to join our finance team.
Reporting to the Portfolio Head of Finance, you will oversee financial performance across a portfolio of acquired software businesses. You’ll act as both strategic partner and operational leader — driving reporting excellence, strengthening controls, leading integrations, and building scalable finance functions in a decentralized environment.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in acquisition-driven environments and wants direct exposure to M&A, performance improvement, and international operations.
What You’ll Own
Portfolio Financial Performance
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning across portfolio companies
- Monitor KPIs and financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities
- Deliver monthly and quarterly business reviews with actionable insights
- Drive cash flow optimization and profitability improvement initiatives
- Partner with operational leaders to execute performance enhancement strategies
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Own the monthly close process across portfolio entities
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
- Maintain compliance with corporate policies and local statutory requirements
- Strengthen internal controls while maintaining operational agility
- Lead statutory audits and support corporate audit processes
M&A & Integration
- Lead financial onboarding and integration of newly acquired businesses
- Execute ERP implementations, account mapping, and reporting alignment
- Prepare purchase price allocations and opening balance sheet accounting
- Identify and remediate accounting policy discrepancies
- Build first bottom-up forecasts with acquired leadership teams
- Roll out Fluent and Valsoft KPI frameworks and finance best practices
Systems & Process Optimization
- Support and drive NetSuite rollout initiatives
- Identify automation opportunities and improve financial systems
- Enhance reporting processes for scalability and efficiency
Team Leadership
- Develop and mentor decentralized finance teams (Accounting, FP&A, AR, AP)
- Set clear performance expectations and drive accountability
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Who You Are
Qualifications
- CPA designation required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
- 1-2+ years of experience managing teams
- Strong experience in multi-entity financial reporting and internal controls
- Advanced Excel skills
- Fluent in English (written and verbal)
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience in M&A or post-acquisition integrations
- Experience in vertical software or decentralized operating environments
- Working knowledge of NetSuite or similar ERP systems
- Experience supporting international entities
