As the largest Speech-Language Pathology department in Canada, the University of Alberta MScSLP program offers students a wide variety of academic and clinical experiences supported by an extensive network of dedicated academic and clinical educators and preceptors. In the Fall of 2024, the program expanded to include a new satellite site at the U of A Augustana Campus in Camrose. The MScSLP Satellite program is one of three professional programs (including MScOT and MScPT) in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (FRM) that is at the Augustana campus.

Successful candidates should expect to work in a dynamic, team-focused environment and be open to a variety of professional development opportunities. Annual teaching, program delivery, scholarship, and teaching-related service responsibilities are determined in negotiation with the Department Chair, responsive to the person’s strengths and the department’s requirements.

We are seeking a candidate with clinical expertise in Adult neurogenic communication disorders (i.e., Aphasia, Dysarthria, Apraxia of Speech) and other areas of practice specific to the adult population (e.g., Voice, Resonance, Dysphagia). This position is heavily focused on clinical supervision within the in-house Corbett Speech-Language Clinic, with the possibility of supporting students in Advanced Clinical Practica. Included in this position is also support for clinic coordination and client recruitment. There is the potential for some classroom teaching which may also include co-instruction, lab support, guest lecturing, course coordination, and primary instruction in courses related to the candidate’s areas of expertise.

The Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine is Canada’s only free-standing faculty dedicated to rehabilitation. It offers accredited professional programs in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology, along with a substantial research and continuing education portfolio. With campuses in Edmonton, Calgary, and Camrose, the faculty serves approximately 1,000 graduate students and is a national leader in advancing rehabilitation practice and outcomes.

• Participation in graduate level capstone projects.

• Participates in inter-professional teaching activities.

• A Master’s, PhD/Clinical Doctorate, or equivalent and a minimum of four years of speech-language pathology experience in clinical practice and/or academic settings.

• Experience teaching in an academic setting;

• Leadership experience in clinical practice settings;

• A demonstrated history of, or commitment to, continuous quality improvement/engagement in professional teaching development activities, ideally related to teaching and learning;

• Experience in clinical education coordination or student supervision/mentorship;

• Capability to oversee scholarly capstone projects;

• Familiarity and comfort with using distance/remote learning technology, or comfort with technology and commitment to learning the remote teaching technology in place;

• Strong organization and time management skills;

• Strong interpersonal communication skills, including conflict management skills.
