About the Role
The Intermediate Financial Analyst will support financial planning, reporting, and strategic decision-making within a media organization. Reporting to the Director, Business and Financial Operations, this role is part of a structured succession plan to develop a future Finance Manager who will lead the finance function for publishing, production, and digital media operations.
The Analyst will work closely with editorial, production, sales, and Consumer Marketing teams, translating business performance into actionable financial insights.
What You’ll Do in this Role:
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results for publishing, production, and digital media operations
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and multi-year planning for media projects and ad revenue streams
- Build financial models for content production costs, advertising revenue, and subscription growth initiatives
- Identify financial risks and opportunities in media operations, recommending solutions to leadership
Business Partnering
- Partner with editorial, production, and advertising teams to support operational and strategic decisions
- Translate financial results into insights for non-financial stakeholders
- Monitor project profitability, content ROI, and cross-platform media initiatives
- Adhoc costing for print products, marketing promotional materials etc.
Reporting & Process Improvement
- Prepare executive dashboards, KPIs, and variance reports specific to media performance metrics (e.g., CPM, circulation revenue, digital subscriptions)
- Drive improvements and automation in reporting processes across print, digital, and broadcast channels
- Ensure financial data integrity across ad sales, production, and subscription systems
Leadership & Succession Development
- Lead small finance projects and cross-functional initiatives
- Mentor junior analysts and coordinate with external vendors (e.g., ad agencies, printers)
- Develop strategic understanding of media business drivers
- Participate in leadership and succession planning programs, preparing to take on Finance Manager responsibilities
Strategic Contribution
- Support business cases for new content launches, digital product initiatives, or media acquisitions
- Analyze ad revenue, subscription trends, and content performance for senior leadership
- Contribute to cost reduction and process optimization projects in production and editorial
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- Progress toward or completion of CPA or CFA preferred
- 3–5 years in financial analysis, preferably in media, publishing, or digital content industries
- Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and analytical skills
- Advanced Excel and familiarity with ERP/BI systems (e.g., SAP, Power BI, Tableau)
- Understanding of media metrics (advertising, circulation, subscriptions) is a strong asset
