About the role
Reporting to the Senior Corporate Officer, Communications & Marketing, the Manager, Communications provides strategic and operational leadership to a high-performing communications team supporting Covenant. This role leads the planning, development and evaluation of integrated internal and external communications strategies that support organizational priorities, strengthen reputation and enhance stakeholder engagement. The Manager oversees a team of senior advisors and advisors who act as trusted business partners to executive and senior leaders, providing expert counsel in areas such as strategic communications, change management, issues and crisis communications, media relations and public engagement. The Manager is accountable for ensuring communications programs align with Covenant mission, values and strategic plan, while also advancing provincial influence, organizational growth and public trust. This includes leading corporate storytelling, digital and media strategies, and ensuring consistent, effective messaging across all platforms. In addition to strategy, this role is responsible for building strong internal and external partnerships, including with government, healthcare partners and community stakeholders. The Manager also leads team development, resource planning and performance management, fostering a collaborative, innovative and high-impact communications function. The Manager leads the Communications team in its work across all aspects of Covenant including Health, Care, Living, Family Health, and new ventures. NOTE: This position is based in Edmonton and requires regular in-office presence. Eligibility for a hybrid work arrangement (3 days in office) may be considered upon successful completion of probation. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business Administration or a related field, along with 10 years of progressive leadership experience in communications within a large, complex organization. Equivalencies in education and experience may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate brings experience advising executive and senior leaders along with broad generalist expertise across core communication services including integrated digital and print communications. They have demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing teams that deliver on strategic objectives. This role requires strong leadership capabilities including confident decision making the ability to address complex issues and the ability to mentor inspire and build confidence in others. The successful candidate has a proven ability to set long-range direction, anticipate emerging trends, guide organizational change and deliver high-quality communications programs in a complex environment. They possess a strong understanding of communications best practices emerging trends and technologies and apply them strategically to advance organizational goals. Exceptional written verbal and interpersonal skills are essential along with the ability to build strong relationships across government public agencies and internal teams. The candidate demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills and effectively manages priorities in a fast-paced environment. They bring integrity alignment with Covenant Health’s Mission Values and a commitment to collaboration continuous improvement and service excellence.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in Communications, Business Administration or a related field. A professional designation such as IABC or CPRS. Experience in healthcare and/or public sector environments.
