CCC-3 is an exciting inpatient service within the Acute Care program at CAMH. We are seeking one (1) part-time, permanent (0.3FTE) Registered Practical Nurses to join the team. CCC-3 is a 25 bed unit that provides support to adults experiencing the acute phase of a mental and/or addictions disorder. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide client-centred psychiatric and general nursing care and ensure the security, the safety and the CNO standards of nursing practice are maintained. Using a primary nursing model, you will collaborate with the primary nurse to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interdisciplinary plan of client care for clients experiencing a variety of mental health issues. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Registered Practical Nurse will be responsible for working with patients from diverse backgrounds, contributing to program development; and provide education support and supervision to students. You will have sound knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, addiction issues, trauma issues, and severe and persistent mental illnesses. You are expected to support group programming on the unit. As an RPN your skills include the ability to make behavioural observations, mental status assessments, monitoring patient’s response to pharmaceutical and care interventions, documentation and ongoing communication with other team members. This position involves shift rotation and weekend work. This position is located at 1051 Queen Street West. These positions require 12-hour day, night and weekend rotations. These positions are located at the Queen Street Site.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. The candidate must have medication administration certification or completion of an RPN education preparation program that includes medication administration. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enabling you to develop the Nurse- Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-disciplinary team. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a strong knowledge of early intervention principles for psychosis, psychiatric nursing, addiction issues and the Mental Health Act. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions is an asset. The successful candidate will be a self-directed team player who is highly organized and has the communication and interpersonal skills that enable them to work within an inter-disciplinary collaborative team environment. Experience working with individuals from diverse ethno cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds is also required. Computer literacy is required. English/French and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
