Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator
About the role
Position Summary
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting and coordinating environmental health and safety (EHS) programs at the Ontario site to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, corporate standards, and industry best practices. This role works closely with site leadership and employees to promote a strong safety culture, reduce workplace risk, and ensure the health and well-being of employees, customers, and the environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support the implementation of corporate health and safety programs at the Ontario site (St. Catharines).
- Support compliance efforts related to Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and related regulations.
- Assist with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, and employee exposure awareness and compliance activities.
- Participate in and support workplace inspections, audits, and safety observations; track corrective actions to completion.
- Assist with workplace injury and incident investigations, including documentation, root cause analysis, and follow-up actions.
- Coordinate WSIB claims administration and support return-to-work and accommodation processes.
- Support the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), including meeting coordination, documentation, and compliance tracking.
- Coordinate health and safety training, ensuring required certifications are delivered, documented, and tracked in the LMS.
- Act as a point of contact for employees regarding safety concerns, questions, and reporting.
- Assist with regulatory communications and inspections, as directed by the Director of Health & Safety.
- Maintain safety records, metrics, and reports; identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance and employee engagement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Ontario occupational health and safety legislation and standards.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation and follow-up skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Comfortable working with learning management systems (LMS) and safety-related software.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a site-based environment.
Education and Experience
- Diploma or degree in occupational health and safety, environmental studies, or a related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in a safety, EHS, or operations support role.
- JHSC Certification strongly preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience working with WSIB and workplace injury management considered an asset.
- Familiarity with manufacturing or industrial environments is an asset.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
