About IMG

IMG is a leading global sports marketing agency that drives revenue growth and fan engagement for more than 250 sports and entertainment rightsholders. The company specializes in media rights management, multi-channel content production, brand partnerships, strategic consulting, digital services, and event management. IMG works across major leagues and properties worldwide, helping partners expand their reach and maximize the value of their IP. Team members collaborate in an international environment and benefit from working at the intersection of sports, media, and technology.

About the role

IMG is looking for an experienced freelance Social Media Manager based in Canada to support the Canadian social media channels of an NFL team. This is an ongoing freelance opportunity starting in September 2026. The role is suited to someone who understands Canadian sports audiences, creates engaging social content, and can work confidently in a fast-moving, internationally coordinated environment. You will help resonate the NFL team’s brand and story into locally relevant content for Canadian fans. Working with IMG’s digital team, the client’s international marketing team, and other local-market social managers, you will support day-to-day channel management, content planning, publishing and community engagement. The expected workload is approximately 4–6 days per month, with additional event or campaign support agreed in advance where required. The role will include remote live coverage for every game of the season, flexible hours around key moments and occasional social content production at live events, watch parties and other team activations.

Key responsibilities

Ideate, create, adapt, schedule and publish engaging social content for the team’s Canadian channels, primarily Instagram and X. Develop locally relevant ideas that engage Canadian fans, reflect local culture and drive conversations. Manage the community day-to-day, responding to fans and acting as the main point of contact for localised social queries, referring issues upwards where necessary. Provide remote live coverage for every game of the team’s season, combining real-time updates with timely post-game or next-morning content where required. Support coverage of major NFL initiatives, events, watch parties and other team activations. Monitor social activity and create content relating to the NFL, the team, its players and staff, relevant sports conversations, adjacent leagues, broadcasters and partners. Help promote the team’s activities, content, commercial messaging and broadcast-partner activity. Work with the IMG Digital team to develop a network of Canadian influencers, creators, fan clubs and community contacts who can help reach new fans and support the wider marketing strategy. Attend agreed events to capture or coordinate social-first content where required. Contribute ideas in weekly content calls with IMG and the client’s international social team. Contribute to regular reporting, market insight and recommendations for improving channel performance.

Essential experience and skills

A minimum of three years’ experience managing sizeable social-media channels and audiences, with a strong focus on Instagram and experience with X. Professional experience managing social media for a sports, entertainment, media or consumer brand. Strong understanding of Canadian audiences, the Canadian sports landscape, and the NFL. Excellent English copywriting. Strong coordination skills, with experience managing content plans, publishing schedules and communication with multiple stakeholders. Comfortable adopting a brand’s tone of voice and working within the requirements and restrictions of major social platforms. Flexible, reactive, and able to apply sound editorial judgement in a live environment. A social-first mindset, rather than a purely journalistic approach. A strong understanding of social media trends, audience behaviour and how to apply market insight to content decisions. Strong community management instincts, including the ability to identify and escalate risk appropriately. Confident creating or briefing social-first photo, video and graphic content. Proficient with in-app editing or content tools and comfortable using video-editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro. Understanding and experience of photo manipulation software – e.g. Adobe Photoshop. Reliable, organised and able to work independently while collaborating with an international team.

Preferable Skills

Experience of live sporting-event social media channel coverage. Good understanding of analytics tools and data, including how to interpret performance and respond against KPIs. Experience supporting broadcast partners, commercial messaging or sports property campaigns. Strong knowledge of NFL and football through a Canadian lens.

Desired results

Professional, accurate, timely and entertaining social media channels for the NFL team. Growth in Canadian fans, engagement and video views. A stronger connection between the team and Canadian fans through locally relevant content and community management. Meaningful support for the team’s broadcast partners and wider commercial activity. A consistent, collaborative and high-quality contribution to the client’s international social programme.

Compensation: freelance rate to be discussed privately with shortlisted candidates. Invoicing: invoices paid monthly or quarterly in accordance with the agreed consultancy terms.
