The Maintenance Scheduler & Planner is responsible for the planning, coordination, and scheduling of all preventive maintenance (PM) activities across critical mechanical and electrical systems at IREN’s Data Centre in Prince George, BC. This role ensures maintenance tasks are properly forecasted, resourced, and executed in alignment with OEM standards and site operational windows. The planner supports asset lifecycle reliability, reduces reactive maintenance, and ensures seamless communication between engineering, operations, and vendors through the CMMS platform.

Job Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Trades certification (e.g., Red Seal Electrician, Millwright, or Industrial Mechanic) is a strong asset.
  • Maintenance Planning certification (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, or other CMMS training).

Certifications Such As

  • BC Industrial First Aid (Level 2 or 3 depending on site requirements).
  • WHMIS, Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection.
  • Asset Management training (e.g., IAM, ISO 55000 awareness)
  • CMMS Certification (MCIM, SAP, Fiix, UpKeep, eMaint, or equivalent)
  • PMP or Maintenance Planning Certification (a plus)
  • 2-3 years of experience in maintenance planning or scheduling within a mission-critical or industrial environment.
  • Hands-on maintenance or reliability background before transitioning into planning (valued highly by employers).
  • Experience with CMMS software (e.g., SAP, Maximo, Infor EAM, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Experience coordinating contractors and service vendors.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Project, and Outlook for reporting and scheduling.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and manuals.
  • Knowledge of spare parts management and inventory systems.
  • Familiarity with reliability tools such as RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance), RCA (Root Cause Analysis), and FMEA (Failure Mode & Effects Analysis).
  • Organized and detail-driven with a strong sense of task ownership.
  • Effective communicator across departments, vendors, and management teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple schedules and deadlines in a dynamic operational environment.
  • May require availability during maintenance windows, weekends, or vendor appointments.
  • On-call participation during critical PM campaigns or site events.

Job Responsibilities Key Responsibilities:

  • Preventive Maintenance Planning
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize the 52-week preventive maintenance plan for all site systems (UPS, PDUs, STS, chillers, CRAHs, BAS, switchgear, etc.).
  • Coordinate all PM schedules with operations leadership, ensuring no conflict with critical loads, change windows, or planned outages.
  • Review OEM manuals and service agreements to generate accurate job plans and task frequencies.

Work Order Management & CMMS Coordination

  • Load and manage all PM work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring proper priority, due dates, and labour hours are assigned.
  • Update and validate task steps, resource requirements, and parts needed for each PM WO.
  • Track and report on overdue, upcoming, and completed PMs; escalate missed tasks and compliance risks to the Asset Manager.

Resource & Calendar Coordination

  • Accomplish 60 days ahead planning for all scheduled PM.
  • Align PM schedules with technician availability, shift coverage, and vendor appointment windows.
  • Coordinate with vendors, OEMs, and internal teams to ensure timely completion of maintenance activities and inspections.
  • Publish weekly and monthly maintenance look-ahead calendars and communicate with stakeholders across operations.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain a complete archive of planned maintenance records, service history, and vendor work documentation in the CMMS.
  • Generate weekly and monthly reports on PM completion rates, compliance gaps, technician utilization, and maintenance backlog trends.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing evidence of timely execution and documentation of PM tasks.

SOP & MOP Alignment

  • Work closely with the engineering team to ensure each scheduled maintenance activity has an approved Method of Procedure (MOP) or Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • Update and improve planning documents and workflows to support consistency and compliance.
