About the role

Job Description:

As the Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) you will be responsible to act as a facilitator to reduce the risk of infection and minimize infection transmission within the facility. Provide ongoing expertise, consultation, surveillance, education, research and evaluation of infection prevention and control processes and procedures to departments and programs. Act as an excellent resource in infection prevention and control and health promotion, actively collaborates with frontline staff, managers, ancillary support staff, volunteers, medical staff, and external partners.

As a qualified candidate you will need have the following job requirements:

  • Four-year undergraduate degree in a health-related field (e.g. nursing, microbiology, epidemiology, public health)

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred; however, mandatory to complete once eligible to write

  • Minimum of one year experience performing client-centered activities while incorporating infection prevention and control principles

  • Minimum five years’ experience related to the healthcare industry with familiar patient care services, preference in an acute care facility

  • Completion of novice Infection Prevention and Control course highly recommended, or proof of enrollment

  • Knowledge of CSA Standards (e.g. Z317, Z314, Z8000) an asset

  • Minimum two years’ experience in Infection Prevention and Control

  • Experience performing regular self-evaluations to identify strengths and needs for professional development

  • Knowledge of epidemiologic principles, statistics, microbiology, and infectious diseases with the ability to integrate this knowledge into clinical practice

  • Knowledge and ability to utilize education principles in adult teaching

  • Advanced computer skills and ability to integrate into clinical practice

  • Knowledge and ability to utilize, the principles of quality improvement

  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively participate in Infection Prevention and Control initiatives

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, located in Barrie, Ontario, provides safe, high-quality care for residents across a large geographical region including Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka. The area is home to more than 450,000 residents, with half of RVH’s patients living outside the City of Barrie.
