Job Description The Southern Health-Santé Sud region is seeking a motivated Physician Assistant or Clinical Assistant (PA/CI.A) for a permanent part-time position .75 FTE working 10-hour shifts on the medicine ward at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre located in Steinbach, Manitoba.
The Physician/Clinical Assistant (PA/CI.A) is an academically prepared healthcare professional, educated in the medical model that practices medicine under the supervision of licensed physicians within a patient-centered healthcare team. The PA/CI.A is a physician extender and not an independent practitioner. This position is part of the PCAM union.
Under the supervision of Physicians from the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, the PA/CI.A will be integrated with other members of the health care team within the hospital. The PA/CI.A Acute Care Hospitalist will primarily assist the Hospitalist and/or Family Physicians with inpatient care covering 66 beds.
The PA/CI.A will be responsible for comprehensive care to inpatients, which will include initial assessments (including histories and physicals), developing and implementing treatment plans and providing chronic disease management follow-up as appropriate. It is important that productive, cooperative working relationships be established between the PA/CI.A and the attending physicians, other primary health care providers, nursing staff, support staff, itinerant consultants, health facility administrators, community leaders, and most importantly, the patients and their families.
It is the intention to have the PA/CI.A truly function as a team and be interchangeable within the various departments to assist with vacation relief or other workload-related needs. PA/Cl.A will be expected to work 10-hour shifts approximately one in four weekends depending on rotation.
The incumbent will exercise the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.
Qualifications
- Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba as a Physician Assistant or Clinical Assistant.
- Must be eligible for a Medical Staff Appointment
- Prior experience preferred
- Ongoing Physician/Clinical Assistant Continuing Professional Development (CPD) required;
- Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required;
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job;
- Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums;
- Good work and attendance record.
- Recommended courses: ACLS

- Candidates must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Educational Program acceptable to CPSM
Clinical Assistants

Must be registered and meet eligibility with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba
