About the role
WildBrain is looking for a Controller to join our team!
Reporting to the VP, Finance, this role oversees all financial reporting activities across WildBrain Studios, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong internal controls. You will lead a multi-disciplinary accounting team, partner closely with production and corporate finance, and serve as a key subject matter expert on tax credits, production financing, and studio cash management.
You will play a critical role in shaping the financial health of our production operations while supporting strategic planning and decision-making across Content Creation.
This full-time, permanent role is eligible for a 15% target bonus, 3 week's paid vacation and a comprehensive benefits package including 5% RRSP employer match.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
What you'll do:
- Oversee the financial reporting function across WildBrain’s Vancouver Studio, House of Cool, and WildBrain Digital
- Manage the month-end and quarter-end close processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant reporting
- Lead and develop a multi-level finance team, including:
- Direct reports: Assistant Controller, Accounting Supervisor, Accounts Receivable Clerk (shared resource)
- Indirect reports: 2 Payroll Clerks and 3 Accounts Payable Clerks
- Serve as a subject matter expert on BC and Ontario content and service production tax credits
- Oversee all tax credit claims and applications, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and PwC
- Estimate interest expense on tax credit loans and advise on production financing structures
- Liaise with external auditors, including PwC, CRA, and client auditors
- Oversee preparation of production company books for corporate tax return processes
- Lead the AR function, including preparation of cash request packages and supporting efficient collections
- Manage studio-level treasury functions, including cash flow forecasting and day-to-day oversight of production funding
- Assist in the annual budgeting process and provide financial insight to production and operations teams
- Ensure internal controls are followed and continuously look for ways to improve financial processes
- Support ad-hoc financial projects and operational initiatives across the Content Creation group
What you’ll bring:
- CPA designation is required
- Industry experience in animation, film, television, or digital media production
- Technical expertise in Canadian production tax credits, preferably BC and Ontario
- Strong understanding of production financing and tax credit loan structures
- Experience using ERP systems such as Microsoft Great Plains
- Proven leadership experience
- High level of organization, accuracy, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across creative and corporate teams
- A proactive, solution-oriented mindset and ability to adapt to evolving business needs
Why WildBrain
Pay Range:
$135,000 to $155,000 CAD annually based on a 40-hour work week.
Candidates are paid within the range posted, but their exact pay will vary based on the level, responsibilities and expectations of the role. We also take into consideration the experience and skills that individual brings, with consideration of our internal equity.
