About the role
As a Meat Cutter with the Tofino Co-op, you are responsible for cutting and preparing meat for sale by performing various duties, such as weighing meat, wrapping it, and putting it out for display. You will assist the Meat Manager with all functions of the meat department ensure successful operations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Sharpen and adjust cutting equipment
- Receive, inspect, and store meat upon delivery
- Cut, bone, or grind pieces of meat
- Weigh, wrap, and display cuts of meat
- Cut or prepare meats to specification or customer’s orders
- Store meats in refrigerators or freezers at the required temperature
- Keep inventory of meat sales and order meat supplies
- Clean equipment and work areas to maintain health and sanitation standards
- Come to work with a positive, professional approach and attitude
- Be dependable for all scheduled shifts
- Provide outstanding courteous customer service
- Follow all Co-op policies, safety standards, and participate in training as required.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- A secondary school diploma is preferred
- Formal Meat Cutting Training program is considered an asset
- Food Safe Certification is required; provided as needed
- Food preparation experience
- Excellent customer service skills
- Desire and ability to lead and manage a team
- Willingness to learn and participate in meat manager training program
Working Conditions:
- Flexible - must be willing to work a variety of hours, including weekends and holidays based on the business needs
Physical Requirements:
- Constant standing and walking throughout shift for up to 8 hours
- Physically demanding; frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
- Kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
- Occasional ascending or descending stairs
- Working in cold rooms for extended periods of time
