Duties & Responsibilities
- Advanced Life Support Patient Care Standards.
- Provide patient care and performs controlled acts as approved by and under the direction of the Base Hospital Medical Director.
- Ensure security of vehicles, stations, equipment/supplies and controlled drugs at all times.
- Ensure safe transportation and ongoing medical care for ill and/or injured patients to and from medical facilities or required destination.
- Provide a detailed patient report to medical staff upon arrival at the receiving facility.
- Complete Ambulance Call Reports/other documentation as required in a timely fashion.
- Maintain contact/complies with the Central Ambulance Communications Centre at all times regarding vehicle movements, status of ambulances, call assignments and the transportation of patients to medical facilities or required destination.
- Inspect the ambulance vehicle, patient care equipment and supplies to ensure they are maintained in a clean and functional state.
- Complete vehicle check sheets as required.
- Attend mandatory training programs, continuing medical education programs and divisional training programs as required.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Diploma in Paramedic Studies or anticipated graduation from a Paramedic Studies program.
- The Paramedic Studies program must be recognized by the Ministry of Health & Long Term Care.
- Emergency Medical Care Assistant (EMCA) or Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistants (A-EMCA) certification (or pending).
- Valid Ottawa Paramedic Physical Abilities Test (OPPAT) or Paramedic Functional Abilities Test (PFAT).
- Qualified to work in an ambulance in Ontario as required by the Ambulance Act and Regulations.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions and exercise sound judgment in an emergency environment.
- Must be able to work effectively and cooperatively with the entire healthcare team.
Working/ Employment Conditions
Working Conditions:
- This position requires the incumbent to work various shifts including nights, weekends and statutory holidays.
- Current certification in CPR [Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS)] or equivalent.
Employment Conditions:
- Proof of local base hospital certification prior to completion of the orientation period.
- The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver's license, a driver's abstract and a valid 'F' class Ontario Driver's license by their first day of employment.
- The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Vulnerable Sector Check by the first day of employment.
