About the role

Job Summary: The Northern Mobile Ultrasound Program delivers ultrasound services to First Nation communities within the Sioux Lookout area.

The Mobile Sonographer will be responsible for addressing community ultrasound needs to improve access to care and coordination between service providers. The Mobile Sonographers are a vital member of the Primary Care Team. They coordinate, perform and evaluate ultrasounds as ordered and within their college guidelines.

The Mobile Sonographer is directly accountable to the Nurse Manager of the Primary Care Team.

Salary Range: $88,049 - $113,338 per annum

Qualifications

• Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).

• Graduate of an accredited training program in Sonography.

• Active membership with Sonography Canada and CMRITO registration required.

• Minimum 2 years general ultrasound experience preferred.

• Ability to do general ultrasound and small parts studies is required.

• OBS High Risk and breast experience an asset.

• Experience working with First Nations communities in the Sioux Lookout catchment area would be an asset.

• Awareness of and sensitivity to the health issues of a diverse community and experience working with First Nations communities is an asset.

• Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux Lookout catchment area would be an asset.

• Strong written and oral communication skills.

• Experience with PAC’s/EMR systems.

• Strong computer skills.

• Must be willing to travel by various modes.

• Must have a valid Driver’s License

• Must be willing to relocate and live in Sioux Lookout (or within a daily commuting distance)

• The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Scheduling of patients.

• Providing ultrasound exams for obstetrics, abdomen, pelvic/gyn and others as able.

• Ensuring case studies/images are uploaded to PAC’s.

• Communicate with the radiologist regularly.

• Assist in preparing monthly and year end reporting.

• Must be familiar with equipment and competent in performing tests, preventative maintenance and documentation of results.

• Prepare the exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct examinations.

• Recognize and record the appropriate anatomy and pathology using sonographic equipment.

• Care properly for sonography equipment and report equipment failure.

• Alert appropriate medical staff of any abnormalities that need immediate attention.

• Manage multiple priorities and projects, and display flexibility in a fast-paced work environment.

• Display good work ethic and friendly and cheerful disposition.

• Maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality.

• Must adhere to organizational policies and procedures concerning cleaning, hand hygiene and the use of Personal Protective Equipment in support of Infection Control measures and attend training when necessary.

• Provide support to coordinate services based on community need and availability of accommodations and clinical space.

• Act as a resource to assist in providing culturally sensitive health care.

• Dealing with PACS and Meditech issues.

• Performs administrative duties in support of the organization’s goals and objectives.

• Provide assistance and other duties as assigned.
