Location

The Region of Durham's Long Term Care Division is currently seeking Recreation Programmers (Part- Time) for multiple locations:

  • Hillsdale Estates, Oshawa
  • Hillsdale Terraces, Oshawa
  • Fairview Lodge, Whitby
  • Lakeview Manor, Beaverton

Recreation Programmer

The incumbent will:

  • Develop and facilitate individual and group programs that align with residents’ needs, preferences, and care plans.
  • Create and deliver programming that is diverse, inclusive, and reflective of the cultural, spiritual, and religious backgrounds of residents through meaningful activities, observances, and partnerships with community faith groups.
  • Support holistic wellness by addressing all dimensions of resident well-being through integrated, person- centered programs and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support holistic resident care.
  • Participate in resident assessments, care conferences, documentation, and program evaluations.
  • Support special events, seasonal celebrations, and community partnerships.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to meet programming needs.

The successful applicant will possess:

  • Diploma or Degree in Recreation and Leisure Services, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, or a related field.
  • Experience in a Long-Term Care Home or Adult Day Program is preferred.
  • Volunteer coordination experience and certification in volunteer management are considered assets.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a resident-centered approach.
  • Proficiency in documentation and report writing.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and infection prevention protocols.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality service with a commitment to treating all Residents and colleagues with dignity, respect and cultural sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated willingness to adapt programs and services to meet diverse needs.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the role, including assisting with mobility and program setup.

Hours of work: You will be scheduled a combination of day and afternoon shifts (8AM- 4PM and 12PM- 8PM) including2 up to 3 weekends per month. Schedules are prepared and posted based on operational needs of the home. We do not schedule based on your availability or another employer's schedule.

Recreation Programmer Salary Information

  • The hourly rate range for this position is $30.05 to $31.15.

Conditions of Employment

All applicants are expected to comply with the Region of Durham's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct Policies throughout the recruitment process. The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within two (2) months from date of hire. Additionally, tuberculosis screening will be required in accordance with the FLTC Act (O.Reg. 246/22). Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will also be collected. Finally, compliance with the Mask Fit Testing Program is required and will be coordinated as part of the orientation process.
