Role description: Arcadis is seeking a Mega Events Delivery Specialist to join the team in Canada. The Mega Events Delivery Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering complex transportation operations for high-profile events (e.g., international sports tournaments, festivals, or city-wide events). This role ensures safe, efficient, and accessible movement of large crowds, integrating multi-modal transport solutions and stakeholder requirements.

This role will sit within the larger Global Mobility Business Area. We partner with our clients across the globe to design thriving and connected cities and communities that enable opportunity for all and keep the world moving. Climate change, urbanization and digitization trends are requiring today’s mobility projects and systems to address an evolving set of demands from the world’s growing population. We design connected, sustainable solutions that integrate existing infrastructure with new technologies, and optimize the mobility of people and goods.

Role accountabilities:

  • Transportation Operations Planning

  • Develop event-specific transportation strategies, including integration with transportation agencies.

  • Lead operational planning for match days and large public gatherings, ensuring resilient and adaptable service design.

  • Conduct site visits, operational readiness exercises, and live event observations to refine plans.

  • Project Management

  • Manage multidisciplinary teams (internal/external), overseeing timelines, deliverables, and budgets for transportation elements.

  • Coordinate with event organisers, transit agencies, city authorities, and safety personnel.

  • Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on transportation for event planning committees, technical working groups, and public forums.

  • Lead workshops and briefings with clients, decision-makers, and the public to communicate complex plans clearly.

  • Event Delivery & Operations

  • Oversee real-time event transport operations, supporting control room activities, decision-making, and rapid response to emerging issues.

  • Ensure effective wayfinding, signage, stewarding, and real-time information systems are in place.

  • Collect and analyse post-event data to inform future planning and reporting.

  • Risk Management & Safety

  • Identify and mitigate risks related to crowd safety, mobility, and accessibility.

  • Ensure all planning complies with regulatory requirements and industry best practice.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Technical

  • Multimodal transportation planning (roads, public transit, rail, pedestrian).

  • Operational planning for large-scale events, including resilience and contingency measures.

  • Data analysis and modelling (proficient in Microsoft Excel and/or GIS).

  • Project Leadership

  • Leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex stakeholder environments.

  • Budget and programme management.

  • Communication

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to brief senior leaders and public audiences.

  • Report writing, presentation, and public consultation.

  • Personal Attributes

  • Calm under pressure, agile problem-solver, and strong situational awareness.

  • Collaborative, proactive, and culturally aware.

Desirable Assets

  • Experience working internationally or in multi-jurisdictional settings (e.g., North America, Europe, Australia).
  • Familiarity with current trends in event transport.
  • Additional languages beneficial but not required.
  • Membership in professional bodies.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Engineering, Transportation, Urban Studies, Event Management, or related field preferred.
  • 7+ years in transportation planning/operations, with at least 3 years focused on major events or mass crowd environments.
  • Strong background in project management, business case development, and framework evaluation.
  • Direct experience with traffic, transit, rail station design, access planning, and multi-modal transport integration.
  • Proven ability to distil technical information into actionable, audience-appropriate communication.

The salary range for this position is $$RANGE$$. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
