About the role
Your Opportunity:
Current ACLS certification is preferred. Critical care background and or previous Recovery Room (PACU) experience required. Certification CPR, extubations and initiation PCA / regional blocks / epidural protocol in pain management. Minimum two years previous experience in PACU, ICU, CCU, or Emergency trauma setting required. Responsible to provide proof of active registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) and maintaining registration throughout employment. PACU Rn's work with post-surgical patients, which involves the development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of patient care plans while working as part of an interdisciplinary team. Tasks performed include frequently assessing the patient (measuring vitals: pulse, blood pressure, temperature, blood glucose, O2 saturation) and for safety reasons frequently monitoring equipment and monitors. Patients are typically under the influence of narcotics and post-anesthetic drugs and may require assistance to move. Patient handling includes boosting patients up in bed, re-positioning patients and assisting to porter a patient back to a unit. Patients can vary in size, weight, age, gender and mobility. Care also includes checking and changing dressings as required, changing bed linens as needed, preparing and administering IV medications.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Certification CPR, previous operating room experience, peri-operative course. The ability to cope and effectively perform in stressful and or emergency situation is essential. Must possess leadership and decision-making ability and be able to exercise sound judgement and use initiative. Good interpersonal and public relations skills as well as good oral and written communication skills are essential. Must be able to lift/pull/push more than 25lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent peri-operative nursing experience with General Surgery. Orthopedics and OB /GYN is an asset. Under the direction of the Unit Manager or designate, the Registered Nurse, as a professional, bears the primary responsibility and accountability to assess needs, plan for, implement and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients.
