

Production Supervisor, Millwork
About the role
Reporting to the Millwork Manager, the Production Supervisor, is responsible for leading the daily manufacturing processes to maximize production, ensuring the timely fill rate for customers. Implementing the production schedule, the Production Supervisor, Millwork, is a safety conscious leader accountable for achieving productivity KPIs (key performance indicators) through successfully supervising and coordinating departmental team members with high regard for quality standards and material efficiency.
Essential Functions
- Oversee daily production operations, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to production schedules.
- Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of operators, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Monitor processes, ensuring compliance with safety standards and quality control procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections of finished products to identify defects and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain accurate production records, including inventory tracking, quality metrics, and team performance.
- Collaborate with quality assurance teams to develop and implement standards.
- Train new team members in best practices and safety protocols.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and oversee maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Evaluate team performance and provide feedback to enhance skills and productivity.
- Communicate effectively with other departments to coordinate production needs and resolve any issues.
- Supervise, coordinate, and schedule activities of workers who assemble, fabricate, paint and inspect products.
- Implement production schedule using information provided by Millwork Manager and establish methods to meet work schedules.
- Identify and provide recommendations to improve productivity and product quality.
- Requisition materials and coordinate receiving materials for business unit.
- Prepare production progress reports for submission to Millwork Manager.
- Performs ad-hoc projects as directed by the Millwork Manager.
Supervision
- Provides support to the Millwork Manager.
- Train workers in job duties, processes, and policies.
- Assist Millwork Manager in coaching and developing departmental staff.
- Complies and enforces all Company policies and procedures.
- Manage efficient use of company materials.
- Accountable for efficient quality control/cost management.
- Accountable for performance management of subordinates including, but not limited to, performance standards, participating in annual performance reviews, and millwork operation targets established by management.
- Recommend personnel for promotions and participate in the hiring process as necessary.
- Chair and participate in necessary department meetings including, but not limited to, 1:1 meetings.
- Participate in ongoing training and leadership development initiatives and programs.
Health and Safety
- Ensure that safety policies, quality standards, and standard operating procedures are followed.
- Maintains a clean and tidy production environment.
- Assists in training departmental employees in safety processes and procedures relating to millwork operations.
- With the Millwork Manager, work with Human Resources near-miss / accident reporting and supports Riverside’s early and safe return to work program.
- Actively participates in the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
Work Environment: Production floor, manufacturing
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education
- Completion of post-secondary school.
- Post-secondary diploma in Carpentry.
- Health & Safety Courses/Training: WHMIS, Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness Training (HSAT), Basic Supervisory Training.
Experience
- 5+ years’ production experience in Architectural millwork.
- 2+ years’ production experience in a lead capacity.
- Leadership experience with personnel responsibilities is an asset.
- CNC experience is considered an asset
- Previous industry related experience in construction, carpentry, trim, paint and manufacturing considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Attributes
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and/or models.
- Knowledge of safe work practices including the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
