Position Summary

The successful candidate will assist students with highly complex medical needs. This position requires the educational assistant to be knowledgeable and flexible in order to meet the varying needs of students in Kindergarten to Grade XII in several classrooms at multiple sites.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • supporting students in Kindergarten to Grade XII who have complex psychiatric, behavioural, and medical needs during short-term placements

  • monitoring medical equipment while students are in the classroom

  • supporting individualized learning by adapting curriculum and utilizing assistive technologies under teacher guidance

  • fostering student development of fine and gross motor skills, communication, socialization, behaviour, literacy, and numeracy aiding with student transportation, setting up mobility aids and equipment, and providing personal care including toileting

Education/Qualifications

  • a two year post secondary program in a related field

  • a minimum of two years of related experience preferably in an educational environment

  • experience working with and providing interventions to students who have developmental delays and learning disabilities

  • experience supporting students who have emotional and/or behavioural challenges and physical/medical disabilities

  • proven ability to implement effective de-escalation strategies

  • excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

  • proven success in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships

  • NVCI, First Aid

Rate of Pay

$27.30 - $31.79 per hour
