Position Summary
Are you a passionate safety professional who thrives in a hands-on environment? Stella-Jones is looking for a Health & Safety Advisor, Operations to join our team and make a real impact on the ground. This is a fully onsite position based in Guelph, Ontario (5 days a week), where you'll serve as the go-to safety resource at our facility — working shoulder-to-shoulder with plant leadership and employees to build a culture where safety isn't just a policy, it's a way of working.
Responsibilities
Site Oversight & Inspections
Conduct daily yard and plant inspections and monitor PPE compliance
Perform spot checks on Powered Industrial Equipment (PIE) operators Maintain a visible, approachable presence as the site's safety champion Lead safety audits, walkthroughs, and employee interviews
Program & Document Management
Develop and maintain JHAs, SOPs, LOTO programs, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Manage PPE inventory and site-specific safety manuals Keep safety communication boards up to date and accessible
Staff & Contractor Engagement
Deliver new hire safety onboarding and ongoing training
Co-chair Joint Health & Safety Committees Support contractor onboarding and compliance oversight
Emergency & Incident Response
Plan, coordinate, and document emergency drills
Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and corrective actions Support injury claim management and return-to-work planning
Regulatory Compliance & Continuous Improvement
Stay current on provincial health & safety legislation
Develop and improve health and safety programs, standards, and procedures Actively pursue professional development opportunities
Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Health & Safety (or equivalent combination of education and experience) 5+ years of H&S experience in a manufacturing environment CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent designation First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Confined Space, and/or Train-the-Trainer In-depth knowledge of provincial and federal OHS legislation Proven experience in hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation Strong communicator — able to engage and influence at all levels Detail-oriented with experience in KPI reporting and incident data tracking Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with safety management software is a plus
