Senior Research Associate, Health Everywhere Hub, O'Brien Institute for Public Health

The O'Brien Institute for Public Health in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Senior Research Associate. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The W21C is a research and innovation initiative within the O'Brien Institute for Public Health at the University of Calgary. W21C's collaborative space and diverse team program supports and enables health researchers to bring new ideas, prototypes, or health care innovations into the health care environment. W21C's Health Everywhere Hub's vision for Alberta is a vibrant eHealth and mHealth ecosystem that builds on a foundation of strength in innovation to drive economic and technological growth that positively transforms our health system.
Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Programs - Digital Health, the Senior Research Associate, Health Everywhere Hub provides strategic leadership, research administration, and project management for projects within the Health Everywhere Hub, specifically within Theme Three: Connectivity and Data Access. The position serves as a critical member of HEH's Theme Three leads, working collaboratively with leadership to formulate and implement the strategic research plan while managing multiple complex research projects.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Collaborate with HEH Theme Three leadership to formulate, develop, and implement the approaches to projects within the Theme
- Provide strategic leadership and management of complex research projects, ensuring alignment with HEH priorities
- Mentor and lead research staff, providing direction and professional development opportunities
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for research involving human subjects, including ethics board applications and renewals
- Oversee grant development, submission, and administration; prepare research reports for funding agencies
- Manage research budgets, resources, and timelines effectively
- Develop and maintain collaborative research partnerships with academic institutions, industry, and government partners
- Ensure effective communication of research activities and outcomes to all partners
- Lead knowledge translation and dissemination of research findings
- Facilitate team meetings, maintain effective communications, and resolve issues in a timely manner
Qualifications / Requirements:
- PhD or Masters level training health-related field, leadership, or research discipline
- Progressive advancement in research project management
- Minimum of 5 years progressive experience conducting and leading research projects
- Extensive knowledge of research methodologies, approaches to community engagement, and conducting research with diverse groups
- Demonstrated leadership experience directing project teams and mentoring research staff
- Expertise in coordinating and conducting mixed-methods research, including qualitative and quantitative approaches
- Experience with ethics protocols, database development, statistical analysis, and report generation
- Track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at research forums
- Experience with grant writing and research administration
- Experience collaborating with industry partners and developing academic-industry partnerships is an asset
- Strategic leadership and effective team management skills, with ability to mentor and develop research staff
- Excellent project management, organizational, and time management skills with proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to communicate effectively with diverse partners including senior administrators, faculty, industry partners, and government representatives
- Strong collaborative and problem-solving abilities with capacity to manage complex and sensitive negotiations
- Ability to work independently, make discretionary decisions, and accept responsibility for outcomes that impact programs and operations
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in environments of continuous change, ambiguity, and shifting priorities
- Familiarity with government, university, industry, and health sector partners
- Resourceful, innovative, creative, and strategic thinking abilities
