Position Summary

Reporting to the Foreman, Custodial, the Custodian performs janitorial and basic facility maintenance duties to ensure our City facilities, are maintained in an attractive, clean, safe and presentable condition for public use.

Responsibilities

of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform janitorial services, basic facility maintenance and facility preparation duties prior to, during and following all use of facilities, ensuring maximum cleanliness and user group satisfaction.
  • Set up, prepare or arrange audio/visual and support equipment and furnishings in accordance to user group requests.
  • Maintain positive public relations and provide assistance and information to user groups.
  • Ensure facilities are unlocked and/or secured in accordance to all schedules, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all rules and regulations pertaining to facility usage are adhered to.
  • Complete time cards, janitorial supply request forms, communication reports, accident reports and preventative maintenance checklists as required.
  • Promptly report all problems and concerns to Foreman, Custodial, or designate.
  • Liaise with the RCMP Clerks or Facility Booking Clerks regarding status of bookings including any changes, cancellations or additions.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have partial High School education and have the ability to read, write, count, add, subtract, multiply, divide and communicate verbally in a clear and effective manner. Good organizational and excellent customer service skills are required. Candidates must be in good physical condition. Direct/indirect related work experience, representing continuous learning of up to one month is required. A working knowledge of the safe usage of powered and hand operated janitorial equipment and products, as well as audio/visual equipment is required. This position is responsible for all City facilities. The successful candidate must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and will be required to provide own transportation when travelling between City facilities. Vehicle mileage will be reimbursed. Basic computer skills are essential for this role.

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement.

Hours of Work: Minimum of 15 hours per week

Varying day, night and weekend shifts
