Reports to: Senior Drafter Position Summary The Junior Drafter supports the production of technical drawing and design documentation at York Precast. Working under the direction of the Senior Drafter, this role contributes to the preparation of shop drawings, panel layouts, and production documentation, with a focus on building technical skills and developing an understanding of precast drafting standards and production requirements. This is an entry-to-intermediate level role suited to someone with foundational CAD and Revit skills who is eager to grow in a precast concrete environment. The Junior Drafter works closely with the Senior Drafter and production teams to ensure drawing outputs are accurate and delivered on schedule. Key Responsibilities Technical Drafting & Documentation: Assist in the preparation of shop drawings, panel layouts, embed details, connection hardware, and lifting point documentation using CAD and Revit. Support the review of drawing packages to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project specifications, under the guidance of the Senior Drafter. Maintain organized drawing records and support version control across active projects. Learn and apply York Precast drawing standards and templates as directed. Production Support: Support the Senior Drafter in ensuring drawings are clear, production-ready, and available ahead of casting schedules. Respond to drawing clarification requests from the plant floor in a timely and accurate manner. Flag drawing readiness issues or conflicts to the Senior Drafter promptly. Design Coordination & Communication: Support the Senior Drafter in liaising with structural engineers, project managers, and production teams to clarify design requirements and incorporate revisions. Identify and escalate potential design or production conflicts to the Senior Drafter in a timely manner. Assist estimating and project teams with drawing scope and documentation as directed. Technology & Continuous Learning: Develop proficiency in drafting software and support integration with supplier or client platforms as directed. Proactively seek feedback and identify opportunities to improve drawing accuracy and documentation quality. Build knowledge of precast industry standards, software, and best practices on an ongoing basis. Other duties as assigned by the Senior Drafter. Qualifications Diploma or degree in Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Up to 2 years of experience in a drafting, structural, or technical role; recent graduates with relevant practicum or project experience are encouraged to apply. Working knowledge of CAD; exposure to Revit is an asset. Basic familiarity with structural drawing interpretation; exposure to precast or construction documentation is an asset. Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy. Good communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across production, project, and drafting teams. Ability to manage assigned drawing tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required. Preferred Assets Exposure to precast concrete, structural steel, or tilt-up panel drawings. Familiarity with shop drawing requirements and production documentation in a manufacturing or construction context. Proficiency in Revit for structural or precast applications. Familiarity with applicable codes and standards related to structural or precast design. Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, or construction environment.
