Description

Sr. Product Manager - Technical — AWS Messaging Services

About The Team

AWS Messaging Services power the backbone of modern distributed applications. Our portfolio includes:

Amazon MQ (AMQ) — A managed message broker service for Apache ActiveMQ and RabbitMQ that makes it easy to migrate to the cloud. Amazon MQ provides compatibility with industry-standard messaging APIs and protocols, enabling customers to move from on-premises brokers without rewriting application code.

Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS) — A fully managed message queuing service that enables decoupling and scaling of microservices, distributed systems, and serverless applications. SQS eliminates the complexity of managing and operating message-oriented middleware, letting developers focus on differentiated work.

Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS) — A fully managed pub/sub messaging and mobile notification service that enables high-throughput, push-based, many-to-many communication between distributed systems, microservices, event-driven serverless applications, and mobile devices.

Together, these services process trillions of messages monthly and are foundational to how customers build reliable, scalable, and loosely coupled architectures on AWS. From startups to the world's largest enterprises, customers depend on our messaging services for mission-critical workloads — including financial transactions, order processing, IoT telemetry, real-time analytics, and event-driven computing. When our services are unavailable or degraded, customer applications stop working. The stakes are high and the impact is massive.

About The Role

We are seeking a Product Manager - Technical to define product strategy and drive roadmap execution for AWS Messaging Services. You will own the customer experience end-to-end — deeply understanding how developers, architects, and enterprises use messaging to build distributed systems, and shaping our services to meet their evolving needs. You will work backwards from customer problems to define features that make it easier, faster, and more cost-effective to build reliable applications at any scale

Key job responsibilities

Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for one or more AWS Messaging services (SQS, SNS, Amazon MQ) Write compelling narratives (PRFAQs, 1-pagers, 6-pagers) to define new product opportunities and gain leadership alignment Deeply understand messaging patterns (point-to-point, pub/sub, event-driven architectures, FIFO ordering, fan-out) and how customers apply them to solve real problems Partner with engineering, design, science, and business teams to deliver high-quality features on time Engage directly with AWS customers — from startups to Fortune 500 enterprises — to understand pain points, gather feedback, and validate product direction Define and analyze success metrics (adoption, usage, reliability, latency, cost efficiency) to inform product decisions and measure impact Prioritize features and trade-offs based on customer impact, technical feasibility, operational excellence, and business value Drive cross-functional alignment across messaging services and adjacent AWS services (Lambda, EventBridge, Step Functions, Kinesis)

Basic Qualifications

5+ years of technical product management with internet business experience 3+ years of technical (software development, network development, IT, other related) experience Experience in taking a product from conception & definition phase through engineering design and taking it to market Experience delivering large-scale SaaS, PaaS or LaaS products where you are responsible for the full product lifecycle, from concept through GTM (go to market)

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in a technical field, or Master of Business Administration

5+ years of enterprise scale infrastructure or development-based cloud programs/projects in a related industry experience Experience in launching new products Experience with messaging systems, event-driven architectures, or distributed systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, AMQP, MQTT) Familiarity with open-source messaging communities and standards
