Position: Social Worker
Department: Community Mental Health – Treatment Orders
Duration Approximately Six (6) Months
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
-
Baccalaureate degree in Social Work required
-
Registration as regulated health professional/social work in Ontario is required
-
Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate an asset
-
Extensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Brian’s Lab (Bill 68) and Mental Health Reform
-
Demonstrated work experience in hospital and community mental health (minimum of 3 years)
-
Experience and ability working with seriously mentally ill individuals
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to liaise between hospital and community required
- Ability to develop a CTO with the client to identify goals and establish on-going supports and services
- Ability to monitor and assess the compliance with CTO
- Ability to coordinate discharge plans with the MRP and appropriate service providers
- Ability to maintain CTO Clinical Records in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Valid drivers license and clean drivers abstract
- Must be willing to travel (catchment areas-Nipissing, Temiskaming, Muskoka/Parry Sound)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to meet the physical demands required to provide nursing care as required
- Must demonstrate commitment to ensure their safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
- Good attendance and work record required
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario
NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.
NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.
NBRHC’s Regional Mental Health Services provides inpatient beds in North Bay and Sudbury and outpatient and outreach services that throughout the region—from Hudson Bay to Muskoka from Sault Ste. Marie to the Quebec border.
A major teaching centre for students in medicine, psychiatry, nursing and allied health professions, NBRHC is proud to be affiliated with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Nipissing University, Canadore College and several other Ontario colleges and universities.
