Main Role The respiratory therapist is responsible for the clinical monitoring of patients under anesthesia or sedation-analgesia , in close collaboration with the anesthesiologist.
Vital Function Monitoring Specific Responsibilities in the Operating Room
- During the induction, maintenance, and emergence phases of general and/or regional anesthesia.
- Monitoring of heart rate, respiration, oxygen saturation, etc.
Equipment Preparation And Management
- Preparation of medications and products Blood tests.
- Setup and verification of monitoring (invasive or non-invasive).
- Prevention of equipment-related infections.
- Independence to manage the inventory of equipment required for inhalation therapy.
Technical Support
- Support during regional (spinal, epidural, nerve block) and general anesthesia.
- Intervention during cardiopulmonary emergencies.
- Supports the team during surgery-specific client setup.
Professional Autonomy
- The respiratory therapist often acts independently in patient monitoring, while collaborating with the team medical.
Key Skills
- Excellent clinical assessment skills.
- Proficiency in ventilation and oxygenation techniques.
- Responsiveness in critical situations.
- Extensive knowledge of the cardiorespiratory system.
Required Profile
- College Diploma (DEC) in respiratory therapy techniques.
- Member of the Ordre professionnel des inhalothérapeutes du Québec.
- Interest in surgery (neurosurgery, orthopedics, urology, gynecology);
- Completed Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in respiratory therapy;
- At least 5 years of experience in the operating room (anesthesia assistance, sedation-analgesia);
- Updated training in CPR and ACLS;
- Good command of French and intermediate level of English;
- Strong interpersonal and interpersonal skills.
