Temporary Part-Time

(up to 24 hours per week; must be available to work weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays)

Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the largest art museums in North America, attracting approximately one million visitors annually. We are currently seeking a Restaurant Host to join our Food & Beverage team. Under the direction of the Manager, Revenue Outlets Operations and Services, F&B, the incumbent will greet guests and show them to the dining room promptly in order to provide efficient and attentive service. They will schedule dining reservations as required.

The rate of pay for this position is $19.14 - $24.03 per hour.

What is this position responsible for?

  • Greets customers to the restaurant and seats accordingly. Assists customers with their coats and bids farewell to guests as they are leaving.
  • Books reservations and responds to inquiries regarding menu and general restaurant operation.
  • Responds to customer comments and complaints; determines nature of complaint and refers to supervisor as required.
  • Prepares restaurant for opening and/or closing; make sure cleanliness and order; rearranges tables as required.

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a host in a reputable, established restaurant
  • Directly related experience at taking, timing and callbacks of reservations to suit the table turnover
  • Demonstrated experience operating a POS System
  • Experience with Open Table is an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • High attention to detail
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of restaurant/hospitality practices and procedures
  • Well-developed customer relations and customer service skills
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
