JOB TITLE: Machine & Robotics Safety Intern

POSITION OPENINGS: 1 (new position)

STATUS: Full Time Contract, January – April 2026

LOCATION: South West Region encompassing Halton Region, City of Hamilton, Niagara Region, Region of Waterloo and the counties of Grey, Haldimand-Norfolk, Brant and Wellington

REGION: Remote in Ontario, Canada (Candidates are required to reside within the South West Region and maintain a private and safe workspace, and have a high-quality internet connection.)

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours/week

HIRING RANGE: $21.00 to $25.00 per hour

Role

The Machine & Robotics Safety Intern (MRS) plays a supporting role in the delivery of health and safety services to customers, with a particular emphasis on machine safety. The incumbent assists in conducting workplace risk assessments, evaluating safety programs, and supporting the delivery of both virtual and in person training sessions.

Working under the guidance of experienced consultants and account managers, the intern helps ensure service quality and customer satisfaction. The role contributes to team objectives and supports the broader organizational goal of promoting safer work environments.

Key Responsibilities

1. SUPPORT HEALTH AND SAFETY SERCIVES FOR CUSTOMERS

  • Assist with safety assessments, audits, and evaluations of machinery and lock-out/tag-out procedures
  • Help implement safety solutions based on customer needs and existing workplace practices
  • Conduct on-site visits and training sessions to promote safety awareness across diverse workplaces in Southern and Southwestern Ontario, including industrial, agricultural, and service sector locations.
  • Work with senior consultants and account managers to support project delivery
  • Help prepare materials and reports for customer engagements
  • Respond to customer questions and requests with guidance from the team

2. ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

  • Help track project progress and update internal systems (e.g., CRM)
  • Organize and maintain files, documents, and safety materials
  • Use internal tools like Outlook, The HUB, and ESS to manage tasks
  • Stay up to date on health & safety trends and best practices

3. CONTRIBUTES TO A HEALTHY AND SAFE WORK ENVIRONMENT (at all times)

  • Complies with all Health and Safety policies, procedures and company rules established in WSPS Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS).
  • Contributes to promoting a healthy, safe, and respectful culture
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations

Skills, Knowledge, Expertise

Minimum

  • Currently enrolled in a post secondary education in an Engineering or Health & Safety related program
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational and planning skills

Preferred

  • Previous work experience considered an asset

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and ability to travel
  • Access to a vehicle that meets minimum MTO safety standards
  • Business level auto insurance coverage
  • The role may occasionally require extended hours to meet project deadlines/business needs

Additional Requirements:

  • To support success in building connections, inclusion and collaboration, a minimum level of in person presence for the purposes of meetings is required for all team members on a quarterly basis.
  • An all-employee meeting (Staff Days or equivalent) will be organized annually. All employees are required to attend the annual meeting in person. Occasional team meetings may be required in person.
