Our Parks, Recreation and Culture department is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join us as a Recreation Programmer. If you are interested in rewarding municipal work while making a difference in the community, this position is for you! Duties include planning, developing, scheduling, coordinating, implementing and overseeing a variety of specified recreational, social and cultural programs. The work involves hiring, training and supervising program staff, establishing and maintaining liaison with community groups, the general public and variety of internal and external contacts, promoting and publicizing interest and participation in program activities and assisting in the preparation and monitoring of program budgets. Performs related work as required.

To qualify, you’ll need to have graduated from a community college in a related field and have sound related experience including some supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Other attributes include sound knowledge of recreational interests, needs, and resources of the community served and sound knowledge of teaching methods and group leadership techniques. The ability to present ideas and viewpoints effectively both orally and in writing, along with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of contacts. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position.

Pay Rate: $34.63 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 rates)

Location: Various locations

Hours of work: As this is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are dependent on operational requirements and are scheduled on an as needed basis. We have many shifts available throughout the week, including weekends and statutory holidays. Typical shifts are minimum four hours in length between operating hours of 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, Monday to Sunday.
