Driven by core values and a shared purpose, we’re fierce champions for better retirement security, known for our can-do culture where everyone plays a role in bringing our vision to life. If this sounds like a fit, we’d love you to be a part of it.

About the Role:

The Lead, Pension Modelling will develop and interpret analytical models comparing Defined Benefit (DB) and Capital Accumulation Plans (CAP) from both employer and employee perspectives. This role is crucial in helping stakeholders understand the financial implications, benefit accrual patterns, and long-term outcomes of different retirement plans.

Utilizing technical and actuarial expertise, the Lead will translate complex modelling outputs into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences and collaborate with various teams to guide strategic pension decision-making and provide thought leadership on evolving retirement plan design.

As the newest member of our team, you will:

  • Lead the design and implementation of pension plan models in Excel, R, or Python, comparing DB and CAP outcomes across demographics and scenarios.
  • Evaluate and illustrate key pension metrics like benefit accruals, retirement income adequacy, and risk-sharing under different plan designs.
  • Model CAP balances and retirement income under various investment strategies, considering factors like contribution patterns and market volatility.
  • Translate quantitative findings into clear deliverables for diverse audiences, including presentations, dashboards, and reports.
  • Design exhibits and summaries that highlight key insights in a visually intuitive and compelling way.
  • Provide thought leadership on evolving pension design trends and communicate practical implications to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver insights and guide strategic pension decision-making.
  • Ensure model governance, documentation, and reproducibility in line with professional standards.
  • Coach and mentor junior staff in modelling and data analysis by utilizing technical and actuarial expertise.

To succeed you will bring:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in pension consulting, pension plan management, or a related field, with significant exposure to both DB and CAP plan design.
  • Post-secondary degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline. Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation required.
  • Proven expertise in designing and managing pension models, with advanced proficiency in Excel, R and/or Python, including experience with scenario analysis and stochastic modelling.
  • Deep knowledge of Canadian pension legislation, plan design principles, and retirement income adequacy frameworks.
  • Self-directed with strong analytical reasoning, professional judgment, and the ability to identify both limitations and strategic insights from models.
