About the role

The Psychiatry Department in Victoria is looking for part-time Psychiatrists\nto join a dedicated team servicing our Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES) for\nweekday, weekend and holiday coverage shifts. Planned weekday hours are 8:00\nam to 12:30 pm and 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm. These hours may change depending on\nclinical volumes. Psychiatrists will provide patient centered care and will be\nresponsive and flexible to team-based requests for clinical involvement. The\nexpectation is to provide 1 day per week of services.\n\nThe successful candidate must have the ability to multi task, and rapidly\nshift priorities in a complex, busy, demanding and rapidly changing\nenvironment. It is a requirement of the position to have a comprehensive\nunderstanding of best practices for management of the full range of patients\nwho present in emergency including psychotic, suicidal, agitated, personality\ndisordered, those with substance related problems, as well as the Mental\nHealth Act.\n\nThe Psychiatrist will demonstrate evidence of learning in practice and\nprofessional development beyond initial transition to practice by embodying\nthe Milestones laid out for a Specialist in practice by the Royal Surgeons of\nPhysicians and Surgeons of Canada in the Can Meds 2015 Milestones:\n\n * Expert who provides evidence-based, collaborative patient & family centred, culturally sensitive care.\n * Communicator who effectively facilitates the doctor-patient relationship and the dynamic exchanges that occur before, during, and after the medical encounter.\n * Collaborator who works effectively with other physicians and health care workers, respectfully addressing misunderstandings and resolving conflicts.\n * Leader who contributes to organizational improvement and management of resources.\n * Advocate who acts for the patient within and beyond the immediate environment\n\nStart Date\n\nJuly 1, 2026\n\nHours of Work\n\nEmergency Psychiatrist: 8 am to 12:30 pm and 12:30 – 5 pm shifts weekdays,\nSaturdays, Sundays and STAT Holidays.
