Under the direction of the Deputy Chief, Operations, this permanent part-time Superintendent, Paramedic Service position provides general day-to-day leadership, oversight and support to Paramedics to ensure regulatory and service responsibilities are delivered as appropriate; acts as the Paramedic Service lead with regard to in-coming communications, while carrying out various day to day administrative tasks; and assists the management team with operating and professional standards tasks. The part-time Superintendent positions provide coverage to address operational requirements. The part time Superintendent is able to provide a minimum availability of 10 shifts per month, including two weekends. Must be available to provide “on call” coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, on an as needed basis.

Wage: $53.47 - $62.56 per hour (2025)

Essential Duties: This position is responsible for receiving and responding to in-coming Shift Superintendent communications from employees, ambulance dispatch, base hospital, police, fire and other health and professional allied agencies; ensures that various crew reports are completed, delivered, gathered, reviewed and logged; conducts base/post visits and ensures that equipment and supplies are received and delivered to base locations; provide day to day supervision and leadership in a manner that encourages clinical excellence. In addition, the successful incumbent will handle various special projects and tasks for Paramedic Services, such as development of community education programs, public relations. To achieve this, you will be working independently and in concert with management, employees, allied and health professionals and the general public. Your work will enable the City of Kawartha Lakes to continually provide excellent support and delivery of paramedic services.

Requirements and Qualifications: You will be a motivated self-starter with post-secondary degree in Paramedicine, Health Sciences or a related field. You will have a minimum of 4 years related experience including supervisory and/or leadership experience, and significant experience in the provincial ambulance system, gained by working as a Paramedic or an Advanced Care Paramedic, which must include EMCA or AEMCA certification. In addition, you will have Defibrillation and System Relief Certification, and be willing to obtain Autonomous I.V. certification within a reasonable timeframe. Knowledge of legislation including the Ambulance Act, Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ministry of Health policies, procedures, guidelines and specifications, etc. is required. Your knowledge and experience is rounded out with strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills, along with interest, aptitude, and demonstrated ability in specialized Paramedic project work. In addition, you will possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “F” Driver’s Licence. This position requires travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes to attend meetings and various work locations. Some early/late meetings will be required.
