About AARFP The Alberta Association of Recreation Facility Personnel (AARFP) is a provincial non-profit organization that supports recreation facility professionals through education, consultation, networking, and advocacy. Our members work in arenas, pools, parks, recreation facilities, and community spaces across Alberta and beyond.
AARFP is entering an exciting period of growth and modernization. We are updating and expanding our education programs, developing new courses, strengthening industry partnerships, and evolving how we serve members. Role Overview The Project Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the Association’s mission to provide education, consultation, and advocacy in recreation facility operations. This position supports the successful delivery of strategic initiatives, education modernization projects, conference development, and operational improvements. The Project Coordinator works collaboratively with staff, board members, volunteers, cadre instructors, contractors, and industry stakeholders to ensure organizational projects are completed effectively and efficiently. The Project Coordinator is responsible for supporting and coordinating major organizational projects while ensuring priorities remain on schedule, within budget, and aligned with the Association’s strategic direction. The role focuses on project planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting across a variety of initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Project Management Support and coordinate the multi-year education modernization initiative Coordinate development of new courses and educational offerings Develop project plans, timelines, milestones, and deliverables Monitor project progress and identify risks or barriers Prepare project status updates and reports Coordinate project budgets and resource requirements Conference Support Support the Executive Director in conference planning and implementation Coordinate conference project timelines and deliverables Work with conference committees, volunteers, and stakeholders Assist with implementation of conference improvements and new initiatives Stakeholder Coordination Coordinate work involving staff, board members, volunteers, contractors, cadre members, and industry partners Manage external contractors and consultants associated with assigned projects Support collaboration and communication between project participants Strategic Initiatives Support implementation of organizational strategic priorities Research and recommend opportunities for operational improvements Coordinate special projects assigned by the Executive Director Assist with development and implementation of new programs and services Office Administration Respond to inquiries as required Support Association activities and events Assist with development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures Qualifications & Skills Post-secondary education in project management, business, recreation management, education, or a related field Minimum 3-5 years of project management or coordination experience Strong organizational and planning skills Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Strong computer skills including Office 365 Experience working with volunteers and stakeholder groups Experience in a non-profit or recreation environment considered an asset
Compensation Expected salary range: approximately $70,000 - $81,000 annually plus benefits and vacation provisions.

The Alberta Association of Recreation Facility Personnel (AARFP) is a member-driven, not-for-profit provincial organization dedicated to providing excellence in training and professional development for individuals involved in the operation of recreation facilities.
Established in 1978, the AARFP trains over 1,000 recreation facility operators each year in Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories. AARFP is made up of a volunteer Board of Directors, three staff members, +60 Associate members, and +1,600 dedicated members.
Each year the Association provides arena, pool, parks and sport fields, custodial, building maintenance and leadership skills courses, conferences and seminars.
