Job Description RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and motivated individual to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will assist in the design, execution, and analysis of research projects, contributing to high-quality data collection, interpretation, and reporting. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative environment, apply research methodologies, and make meaningful contributions to impactful projects in neuroscience electrophysiological in vitro and in vivo experiments such as patch clamp recordings using animal and human tissue.
General Duties
- Assist in the planning, design, and implementation of research studies,
- Conduct literature reviews and summarize findings to support research development,
- Collect, manage, and analyze qualitative and/or quantitative data,
- Prepare research reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders,
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and collaborators to ensure project milestones are met,
- Maintain research databases and ensure compliance with ethical standards and institutional guidelines,
- Support the preparation of manuscripts, grant proposals, and academic publications,
- Stay updated with relevant developments in the field to enhance the quality and relevance of ongoing research.
Standards Of Performance Technical Proficiency
- Demonstrates competence in performing electrophysiological techniques, including patch-clamp recording, EEG, MEA, or intracellular recordings.
- Maintains, calibrates, and troubleshoots electrophysiology equipment and software with minimal supervision.
Experimental Accuracy
- Consistently prepares and executes experiments according to established protocols with precision and reproducibility.
- Minimizes errors by adhering to best laboratory practices and careful handling of biological specimens.
Data Integrity and Analysis
- Accurately records, organizes, and analyzes raw electrophysiological data using appropriate software (e.g., Clampfit, pCLAMP, MATLAB, Spike2).
- Ensures all datasets are complete, reliable, and securely stored for analysis and publication.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintains detailed, clear, and up-to-date laboratory notebooks and experimental logs in accordance with institutional and regulatory standards.
- Prepares timely and high-quality reports, summaries, and presentations of experimental findings for internal meetings, publications, or grant proposals.
Compliance and Safety
- Follows all institutional, ethical, and safety guidelines related to the handling of animals, human tissue, and hazardous materials.
- Completes required training (e.g., IACUC, biosafety) and maintains certification as needed.
Collaboration and Communication
- Works effectively with principal investigators, lab staff, and collaborators to support joint research objectives.
- Communicates findings, challenges, and recommendations clearly and professionally in both written and verbal forms.
Continuous Improvement
- Proactively seeks opportunities to improve experimental design, technical skills, and knowledge of electrophysiological methodologies.
- Stays current with recent advances in electrophysiology through literature review, workshops, and seminars.
Time and Project Management
- Manages time efficiently to meet project deadlines and adapt to shifting research priorities.
- Demonstrates initiative in managing multiple tasks while maintaining a high level of quality and accuracy.

Additional information
Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: $55,692.00 - $103,412.40. Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm
Work Site: GLEN Site, 1001 boul. Decarie
