##Position Summary
The Chief Engineer maintains the uninterrupted operation of shipboard machinery and systems. The Chief Engineer designs and manages the implementation of preventative maintenance projects.
All crew members must comply with all regulations set out by the Canada Labour Code, Canada Shipping Act, Corporate Policy, Company Safety Policy, Transport Canada regulations including Marine Personnel Regulations and any other applicable legislation. All crew members will be required to cross the border to the United States or overseas as required by vessel’s voyage operations. Exercising a high degree of professionalism with all third-party inspectors or customers is mandatory for all shipboard personnel.
##Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Managing the activity of shipboard engineering personnel.
- Ordering items through SINEX and doing so cost effectively.
- Ensuring that all engineering personnel always adhere to safety policies.
- Leading preventative maintenance initiatives in a cost-effective, efficient and timely manner.
- Conducting performance reviews of shipboard engineering personnel and identify areas of improvement.
- Ensure the safe and proper operation of propulsion and auxiliary machinery.
- Troubleshooting when machines are not working correctly.
- Monitor of bunker and lubricants.
- Responding to oil pollution according to the correct procedure.
- Must possess good communication skills.
- All other duties and responsibilities as may be defined in Safety Management System (SMS).
- All other duties assigned by the Captain or MMTL.
##Minimum Qualifications:
The Chief Engineer must hold the following minimum qualifications (subject to variance in the vessel’s safe manning documents):
- Minimum 4th Class Engineer license (Preference will be given to higher certification and relevant experience) issued by Transport Canada
- MED with respect to STCW basic safety; MED training with respect to proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats; MED in advanced firefighting; MED for senior officers; Ship management practices taught using a propulsive plant simulator (level 2).
- Specialized Oil Tanker Training Certificate of Proficiency (SOTT) with Transport Canada Level-2 Endorsement.
- Tanker experience.
- Dual Fuel (LNG) Training –Advance
- Marine Advanced First Aid.
- Ship Personnel with Designated Security Duties (Preferred).
- A valid Passport and Transport Canada Marine Medical.
Location – candidate should be within daily driving distance to Port of Hamilton.
The Company may require additional training courses in the following areas:
- Occupational Health and Safety.
- Oil Spill Response.
- Accident/Hazard Investigation training.
- Hazard Prevention
- Engine Room Resource Management
