The candidate for this position will be seconded to the “Comité des Grands Réseaux Electriques” also known as “CIGRÉ”. Within that organization, they will assume a role of the Canadian Accounting and Operations manager.

CIGRE is an organization on the cutting-edge of electric power systems. Since 1921, they have been a driving force in the advancement of knowledge and technological innovation in the field of electric power systems. CIGRE brings together all the key players in the electric power systems sector: business leaders, system operators, manufacturers, engineers, policy makers, regulators, academics, and many others.

Today, their network extends to 90 countries worldwide. This means that they benefit from the experience and expertise that springs from the research and practice in each of these different countries. And, in turn, they bring this wealth of information back to members, such as AtkinsRéalis, through working groups, conferences, technical papers and reports.

CIGRE Canada represents its Canadian members, supporting their active participation as they offer their expertise towards development of global technological advancements in electrical power systems. CIGRE Canada are looking for an Accounting and Operations Manager that can support its National Executive and active membership.

Your role within the team:

Be part of a team of two that carries out the following:

  • Support the Power Grids Business Unit as the AtkinsRealis contact to our major Canadian Utility clients and others members of CIGRE.
  • Manage external communications for members and the website provider and lead the composition and publication of material on CIGRE’s digital and social media platforms. This also includes receiving and processing all CIGRE and CIGRE Canada – related correspondence that is received by the office, or forward to appropriate CIGRE Canada executive as may be required
  • Coordinate CIGRE activities with the Conference provider for the annual CIGRE Canada Conferences (held in different Canadian locales) and provide support as may be required to CIGRE head office in Paris for the biennial conference usually held in Paris.
  • Organize and participate in Executive Committee meetings – send out meeting notices, secure location (or set up video call if appropriate), send out materials in advance of the meeting and attend the meeting to take notes for distribution. Provide administrative support where required including presentation slides, board documents, member correspondence, etc.
  • Banking – getting proper authorization and ensure that all invoices are paid in a timely manner. This also includes maintaining accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Bookkeeping and maintenance of all financial records. Make entries in QuickBooks and prepare financial statements, cash flow projections, and financial analysis reports for the CIGRE Canada Executive Committee. This will also entail working with our auditor and providing full support during our annual audits.
  • Prepare CIGRE Canada’s annual tax returns and all related documentation.

The ideal candidate:

  • Communications, Business Administration or Administrative Assistance experience.
  • Accounting experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of Active, hands-on experience, ideally in similar administrative / event planning roles.
  • QuickBooks.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to work independently, be a self-starter and resourceful.
  • Detail oriented – Strong organization and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
