About the position

Title: Associate Dean, Health and Psychology

Location: Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada (Onsite)

Work arrangement: (onsite, 4 days per week)

Reports To: Vice President Academic & Provost

Expected hiring salary: $120,000 to $140,000 *Rank and salary are determined through an internal review and approval process

About the programs

University of Niagara Falls Canada invites applications for Associate Dean responsible for two newly-ministry approved programs; Master of Arts, Applied Social Psychology & Master of Health Management. The appointment will commence no later than November 1, 2025.

The Master of Healthcare Management core curriculum will cover topics such as health care systems, policy, economics and financing. It will examine how to measure quality efficiency and effectiveness of the overall system. Students will also explore issues of accessibility and equity in healthcare policies practices and services including social determinants of health, barriers to access and disparities of health outcomes among different populations.

The Master of Arts, Applied Social Psychology Will provide a solid grounding in social cognition social identity social influence group dynamics and interpersonal relationships core curriculum will cover topics such as attribution persuasion self concept implicit bias prejudice conformity bullying aggression and examine how these factors influence individual group in society well-being the program will also explore applications to areas such as criminal activity substance abuse in domestic abuse.

Both programs will share institutional learning outcomes including digital mindset collaboration problem solving and big data analytics.

As a member of the University’s Senior Academic Leadership team, the Associate Dean reports directly to the Vice President Academic (VPA) and provides advice and assistance to ensure high quality programs. The Associate Dean will also champion and contribute to the achievement of goals related to teaching, curriculum, scholarship, academic integrity and student success. The Associate Dean will assist in recruitment of full-time and sessional faculty teaching in their program and be responsible for work planning and evaluation of the faculty. Moreover, the Associate Dean will maintain a teaching load of 3 courses annually, while engaging in research and scholarly activity.

The successful candidate will have the following education and experience:

  • Extensive administrative leadership experience within post-secondary or healthcare environments, with a focus on building teams while concentrating on excellence in the student/healthcare professional experience
  • Solid background in the applied principles of social psychology
  • Competent in digital technology and knowledgeable of the field of Healthcare Management – through the lenses of both academia and industry
  • PhD degree in a relevant discipline
  • Post-secondary teaching experience, with an inclusive learner-centered approach to teaching, willing to use, or to learn to use progressive information technology tools as aids to student learning.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the post-secondary level and excellence in teaching diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds.
  • Experience teaching in a multi-modal post-secondary education environment (minimum of 5 years teaching experience preferred).
  • Track record of research/scholarly achievement in a related field.
  • Hands-on practical and professional experience within the healthcare sector is an asset.

The Associate Dean is responsible for the following:

  • Leads the program, faculty and initiatives to effectively represent the program, the University, and the community.
  • Actively works to promote a culture that is inclusive, fair, open, respectful, tolerant of diverse views and protective of the collective good of the University.
  • Coaches and mentors faculty and staff. by providing guidance, support, and development opportunities. Ensures orientation to the program for newly appointed faculty.
  • Collaborates with the Centre for Teaching Excellence to ensure the effectiveness of department faculty in teaching, curriculum and program development, and pedagogical techniques.
  • Performs faculty recruitment and ensures recruitment processes are conducted in accordance with UNF Policies and relevant legislation.
  • Organizes and oversees the faculty peer reviews, peer observations, and performance assessment process in accordance with UNF Policies.
  • Oversees a fair and equitable allocation of faculty work such as teaching assignments, schedules, curriculum duties, and service responsibilities.
  • Oversees the timely creation of program budget needs including faculty and staff planning, course schedules, and other program expenses.
  • Chairs the Program Advisory Committee.
  • Leads the internal self-study for Program Reviews in accordance with the Program Review Policy
  • Approves course syllabi prior to each semester's start and ensures curricular integrity by ensuring that learning outcomes are assessed in a scaffolded fashion throughout the program.
