Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services Western Operations site, with a preference of location being in Calgary, and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities.

About The Role Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Supervisor - Facility Infrastructure Management and Operations to join our dynamic Enterprise Facilities team supporting our Western Donor Centres.

The Enterprise Facilities team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by ensuring the premises, facilities equipment, grounds and building equipment associated with the premises are adhering to all internal and external regulations and operating procedures. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring our infrastructures are maintained and operated in a cost-effective manner while meeting all quality standards.

Formula for success Drawing on your previous experiences, established skills and strengths, you will -

  • Assists in development and management of annual operating and capital budgets, and in the development of long-term capital replacement and project budgets.
  • Directs, monitors, and appraises the performance of third party service providers, ensures all relevant information is documented.
  • Oversees all external service provider activities and ensures adequate training to perform jobs safely, efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitors activities and related costs to ensure costs are kept within budget while achieving departmental goals and objectives.
  • Ensures all interior and exterior physical plant, premises, infrastructure equipment, collections, manufacturing and donor testing equipment, electrical plumbing, health, ventilation and air conditions preventative and emergency maintenance requirements are met.
  • Analyzes data and prepares reports as required.
  • Controls equipment performance for cost effectiveness, trends energy and water consumption, and participates in an energy/environmental management program.
  • Oversees the implementation of the fire safety plan and ensures proper operation and maintenance of security systems.

Desired Education And Skills

  • Post-secondary education from a recognized institute with preference given to Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist, BOMA, IFMA certification or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in facility maintenance management of medium to large sized commercial or institutional buildings housing the latest technology including computerized environmental control systems.
  • Previous team lead, oversight of contractors or supervisory experience a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of, but not limited to, direct digital controllers, computerized maintenance management system, refrigeration, air handling units, compressed air, fire alarm systems, sprinkler, card access system, security, hot water heater, humidifiers, pneumatic control, and hydronic systems. Previous experience would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working within an ISO 9000 or GMP environment, preferably within a highly regulated environment, is an asset.
  • Effective communication with strong interpersonal skills, who exercises sound judgment while fostering strong working relationship with internal stakeholders and external service providers.
  • Effective organization and time management skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities within tight deadlines.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
