This position will be key to successful entry into the Northeastern Ontario market and there will be potential to grow with the operations. This role will consist of preparing accurate bottle orders for delivery to clients throughout the Timmins region and processing samples received. The successful candidate must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment and meeting strict deadlines while maintaining a strong focus on customer service.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Welcome clients and couriers to the sample receiving area;
  • Prepare bottle orders and sample preservatives for packing and shipping;
  • Package and ship samples using appropriate couriers and procedures;
  • Organize, prioritize, and track orders;
  • Review and double-check bottle orders prepared by others for errors;
  • Receive supplies and distribute to the appropriate department;
  • Process return shipments for laboratory supplies;
  • Take weekly stock counts;
  • Maintain inventory control of sample bottles and general lab and shipping supplies;
  • Deliver late shipments to couriers and others as required;
  • Deliver/pickup of shipments, as required;
  • Trace lost/late shipments and/or customer claims of lost shipments;
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients and couriers;
  • Clean and manage coolers after sample login;
  • Ensure sample receiving area is clean, organized, and presentable at all times;
  • Receive samples/coolers;
  • Unpack and layout all samples from each submission in the order of the submission;
  • Label verification;
  • Basic building maintenance;
  • Provide general assistance to support regional operations as required;
  • Follow internal Standard Operating Procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality procedures are adhered to;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Lab Supervisor or Regional Manager

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Good English communication skills (auditory, verbal, writing, and reading) as required
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) on a basic level;
  • Basic computer skills;
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks correctly in a fast-paced environment;
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines such as Turnaround Times (TAT) and holding requirements;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • A strong work ethic and willingness to own varied tasks as required;
  • A commitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs./23 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
  • Extensive walking or movement, bending, and kneeling for a full shift;
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves, etc. when required;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant odours
  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and may require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends
