Unity Health Toronto, comprised of Providence Healthcare, St. Joseph’s Health Centre and St. Michael’s Hospital, works to advance the health of everyone in our urban communities and beyond. Join our Providence Healthcare team as we work to put patients and families at the centre of everything we do, in the role of Physiotherapist on our Orthopaedic and Amputee Rehabilitation program.
Duties & Responsibilities The primary role of a physiotherapist is to assess, diagnose within scope, and analyze the impact of injury, disease, disorders, environment factors or lifestyle on movement and function. Physiotherapists promote physical activity and overall health at any stage of life when movement and function are threatened. They prevent and rehabilitate disease, injury, and disability, and manage and improve acute and chronic conditions, activity limitations, participation restrictions and physical performance through intervention and education.
- Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
- Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff and members of the academic and professional community
- Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
- Is committed to and participates in ongoing quality improvement and/or research in the organization
- Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
- Is committed to providing anti oppressive and accessible care for all patients
Qualifications
- Must be currently licensed by and in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (CPO) for practice in all applicable clinical areas
- Must hold a master’s degree (or substantial equivalent) in Physiotherapy
- Current BLS (or willingness to complete within probationary period)
- As required by the program, must be rostered (or willing to roster prior to the end of the probationary period) with the CPO to perform the following activity: Administering a Substance by Inhalation
- Experience in orthopaedic and amputee rehabilitation is preferred
- Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
- Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care
- Demonstrated advocacy, commitment to and involvement with profession preferred (e.g. involvement with professional association, representation on relevant committees)
