##Course Description/Relevant Employment****Duties

The Interdisciplinary Minor in Nuclear Studies and Society is intended for undergraduate students from all Faculties who wish to develop an essential understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of nuclear technology in society today. Nuclear studies play important roles in our society, including nuclear medicine, which contributes to advancements in medical imaging and cancer treatment through radioisotopes. Nuclear energy plays a substantial role in providing clean, reliable, and safe electricity. Students can also explore opportunities in nuclear engineering, focusing on the design, construction, and operation of nuclear reactors. The social side of nuclear studies requires professionals who can facilitate meaningful engagement between individuals and communities with the nuclear sector around issues of peace, ethics, and sustainability. This interdisciplinary approach prepares students to address complex challenges and harness opportunities within the nuclear sector, contributing to sustainable development and innovative solutions.

##NUCLST 4N03: Interdisciplinary Projects in Nuclear****Studies

This course is one of two culminating courses required to complete this minor. As such, we anticipate enrollment will include students from the Faculties of Engineering, Science, Humanities, Business, Social Sciences and Health Sciences. Students will complete an interdisciplinary project that synthesizes their knowledge and understanding across at least two of the streams of nuclear minor (the streams are defined on the web site https://www.eng.mcmaster.ca/programs/specialized-programs-minors/minor-in-nuclear-studies-and-society/).

Required Qualifications– Post Secondary Degree

Preferred Qualifications– Five years or more relevant industry experience.

-Supplemented Fees- 15.02(a) The employee may be eligible to receive supplemented fees in accordance with Schedule C of the Collective Agreement. The actual rate of pay when in excess of the base rate of pay is deemed to include any supplemented

fees owing, to the extent of the excess amount. If the actual rate of pay is less than the sum of the base rate of pay and the supplemented fees owing, then the employee shall receive the difference.
